Data Table, Graph, and Statistical Table A show the effect of 1
ppm solution of gibberellic acid on the Phase 1 closing speed of
Venus flytraps. The mean Phase 1 closing speed of the plants
to which gibberellic acid was added (1.7 sec) was less than that
of the control group (1.8 sec). There was a greater variation
among the control group (range= 2.7 sec) than there was
among the experimental group (range = 1.9 sec). Substantial
variation existed in both the control group (standard deviation
= 0.48) and in the experimental group (standard deviation =
0.46). At-test was used to test the null hypothesis of no
significant difference at the 0.05 level of significance. The
calculated t value (t = .83) was not significant at the 0.05 level
of significance, and the null hypothesis, stating that no
significant difference could exist between the groups, was
therefore accepted.
Data Table, Graph, and Statistical Table B show the effect of 1
ppm solution of gibberellic acid on the Phase 11 closing speed
of Venus Flytraps. The mean Phase 11 closing speed of the
plants to which gibberellic acid was added (90.2 min) less than
that of the control group (101.2min). There was a greater
variations among the control group (range = 218.0 min) than
there was among the experimental group (range = 167.0 min).
Substantial variation existed in both the control group
(standard deviation = 55.5) and in the experimental group
(standard deviation = 46.5). A t test was used to test the null
hypothesis of no significant difference at the 0.05 level of
signifivance. The calculated t value (t = 7.68) was significant at
the 0.05 level of significance, and the null hypothesis, stating
that no significant difference would exist between the groups,
was therefore rejected.
