The leading causes for a heart failure can be the high blood pressure [which is left uncontrolled over a long period of time], the Diabetes, the Cardiac valve disease which is caused by the rheumatic fever or any other hazardous infections on a body. Coronary artery disease is a condition in which the walls of the artery are blocked due to the deposition the fatty substances on the internals of the arterial walls. This condition is termed as coronary artery disease and this is also one of the causes of heart failure.
1. THE CAUSES OF CARDIAC SURGERY
Congestive cardiac failure also known as the heart failure can be defined as a condition in which the heart
is not able to pump enough blood as the way it should. pump for the proper functioning of the body. There
are some cases where in the heart cannot be filled with enough pure blood and thatis due to the blocks in
the heart values. In some cases there is the condition that the heart cannot pump enough blood to all the
body organs with enough force. Some people have got either one problem of blockage or both the
problems of blockage and malfunctioning of the heart’s pumping method.
It must not be considered that heart failure (In French insuffisance cardiaque) refers directly to the
sudden stop of the heart’s functions but it refers to the weak pumping power of the heart. This can affect
either the right side of the heart or the left side of the heart or both sides of the heart.
The leading causes for a heart failure can be the high blood pressure [which is left uncontrolled over a long
period of time], the Diabetes, the Cardiac valve disease which is caused by the rheumatic fever or any
other hazardous infections on a body. Coronary artery disease is a condition in which the walls of the artery
are blocked due to the deposition the fatty substances on the internals of the arterial walls. This condition is
termed as coronary artery disease and this is also one of the causes of heart failure.
The cardiac surgery (In French chirurgie cardiaque ) takes many forms and the condition of the heart
determines the surgeon’s approach to perform the cardiac surgery. A heart is composed of tricuspid,
pulmonic, mitral, aortic valves, when the chambers contract the valves open to allow blood to flow through
and later they close and avoid blood from flowing in the opposite direction.
When these valves become diseased the flow of blood is affected. This causes chest pain and also
shortness of breath and the required cardiac surgery is made to repair the affected valve. There are few
persons who are born with sepal defect and this in turn might be causing problems like acute chest pain
.In such cases the surgeon does either the by-pass surgery or tries to install the pace maker for effective
functioning of the heart. In severe cases even a new heart is required to save the life of an individual
affected by heart failure.
Regular exercise and healthy life style should be followed to enable one to lead a stress free long life.
2. HAVE A HEART AND CARE FOR IT TOO !!
How often do you hear about some relative or a friend rushed to the hospital in the middle-of-the-night, due
to heart failure? Surely the news makes you almost miss a heart beat, right? How do you perceive this
condition of the failure of one of the most important organs of the human body?
Normally a condition in which a weakened heart is not capable of pumping enough blood throughout the
body, this leading to the feeling of a reduction of that blessing called 'life'! Similar to other heart ailments,
the heart failure has been acquiring epidemic proportions in India in the recent past, but has not received
adequate public attention. Usually not completely curable, heart failure (In French insuffisance
cardiaque) can at least be managed and an attempt can be made to improve the patients' quality of life.
There can also be certain changes, imperative in the person's life style, also being grateful to the
advancement in technology and the discovery in the various drugs made available, the progression of the
disease can be avoided today. Of course, the treatment can be geared provided the detection is done at
the required stage.
What does heart failure imply ?
Not literally as the word suggests, does the heart cease to function, nor does it indicate that the heart is
going to stop functioning. Actually, it refers to the condition of the heart in which the heart becomes so
weak that it is unable to pump the required amount of blood carrying enough oxygen and nutrients to meet
the body's needs. Where the word 'failure' raises the alarm, medically it only refers to a chronic syndrome,
that typically develops slowly, also at times referred to as the main reason behind long years of untreated
damage of the heart muscles, when too much strain is caused to the heart all because of the number of
years multiplied on untreated blood pressure and an abnormal valve.
What are the underlying symptoms of heart failure ?
Generally heart failure may no have well-defined symptoms as such, but surely results in further damaging
the heart, worsening the health of the concerned person. Most commonly, the person is unable to breathe
normally, experiencing a shortness of breath.
The number of heart beats per unit of time, often expressed as the beats per minute define the heart rate
3. (In French frequence cardiaque ) of the person. Used by medical professionals, the heart rate can vary,
since the human body needs to absorb oxygen and excrete carbon dioxide changes, such as during
exercise or sleep. When the heart rate gets high, a condition in which the heart beats at an abnormally
faster rate, it need not be life threatening in all its cases, though it may certainly lead to certain severe
conditions, that positively refers to some or the other ailment related to the heart n the person concerned,
for those related to the coronary heart diseases, high blood pressure, etc are generally the ones that may
elevate the pulse rate for a longer time.
Enable a longer beat , make it stronger !!!
There are several reasons for heart failure differing from person to person. The condition in which the heart
muscle is damaged, including several other factors as the Coronary Artery disease, in which the arteries
supplying blood and oxygen to the heart, causes decreased blood flow to the heart muscle. If the arteries
get blocked, the heart becomes starved of oxygen and other nutrients. In other situations, there is the
possibility of a heart attack, when the person's coronary artery suddenly gets blocked, ceasing the flow of
the blood to the heart muscle, further damaging it, proving detrimental for its functioning. Not only this the
heart failure (In French insuffisance cardiaque) may result in Cardiomyopathy, damage caused to the
heart muscle may be as a result of the infections caused or by alcoholism, drug abuse, pregnancy or at
times there may be no apparent cause. Many a times, the strain on the person's heart, may be the cause,
associated with a high blood pressure, valve disease, thyroid disease, kidney disease, diabetes or other
heart defects present at birth. High blood pressure has always been associated as one of the crucial factors
promoting heart failure.
How can heart failure be treated ?
The most crucial task is of taking the right kind of precautions in order to promote its longevity, reducing the
chances of hospitalization and thereby the risk of death. The symptoms of water retention and shortness of
breath need to be reduced, and most importantly the factor that is often ignored in the long run-change in
the lifestyle.
In case, the heart failure has been diagnosed as mild, the first step towards the path of recovery and
progress can be taken in treading the path steadily and carefully. A healthy diet is the most important factor
as eating the right foods high in fiber and less in fat, cholesterol and sugar. The total number of calories
need to be reduced in the intake, very obvious if the patient requires to lose weight. Getting rid of the
4. addiction of smoking, chewing of tobacco or the consumption of alcohol; followed by a regular exercise
regime prescribed by the doctor, encourages the improvement in the heart, working towards the reduction of
Heart Failure progression.
In extreme cases, however, the need arises as a wake-up call that cannot be ignored, the need for a
surgical procedure. Cardiac surgery (In French chirurgie cardiaque) includes various forms, aimed at
solely stopping further damage to the heart, improving its functioning, including the procedures of implanting
devices such as the heart pumps, implanted into the abdomen, pacemakers, ICDs, coronary
stenting, coronary artery bypass grafting as a part of cardiac surgery.
