Notas do Editor

  1. Welcome! I am so glad that either your curiosity or your forward thinking has inspired you enough to join us. My name is Terrence Wing. I am the CLO for Liquid Learn. We specialize in helping managers adjust their decision making architecture from labor to management. As a Leadership Consulting Company, why am I giving a presentation on Twitter. Think of it from a case study perspective. This hour is not about statistics and lecture. I designed it so you can experience the power of social collaboration and learning through this vehicle we call twitter. Realizing not everyone has a twitter account set up, we’ll work with the tools we have which really aren’t that different. Let’s cover some admin details.Ask questions through chat at any time. Doug will help me make sure I don’t miss any questions. If you see a question you can answer for someone, answer it. You don’t have to wait for me. If you agree or disagree with something being said, state it in the chat. If you have an additional resource to share, share it in the chat windowIf you have instant feedback for me, give it to me in the chat window. Ultimately use the chat window as much as possible. If you want to tweet anything use the #ASTDLA hashtag. If you don’t have any idea what that means, you are in the right place and you will soon enough. I’ll do my best to monitor the ASTDLA twitter feed as well. An absolute must is to type lol whenever I make a joke. I have something really cool for the most active chatter. I spoke to the author of Gettin’ Geeky with Twitter: Build Your Business and Manage Your Brand with Today’s Hottest Social Media Tool …. and she has given me a copy of her ebook to give to you. Whoever has the most chat comments will win the ebook. So to do this, record how many comments you put in the chat window. We’ll use the honor system.
  2. Expertise is on the way. To get there we’re going to address three main objectives. Address perceptions, good, bad, indifferent, confused… You’ll have a better understanding of why people use Twitter.Knowing someone is doing their laundry is hardly stimulating or useful for most of us. You’ll discover how Twitter changes the way we learn and how you will have to facilitate learningYou’ll get started on a tweeting strategy to help you as a Learning Professional. We are going to look at this from two perspectives. The first perspective is the learner. Second will be from the Learning Facilitator’s perspective. I’d probably be safe to say you each move in and out of these roles.
  3. Let’s discuss some your experience. (POLL – Do you have a Twitter Account? Do you Tweet greater than 5 times a week? In the chat window answer: What other SoMe tools have you used? (Record on White Board)Finally, what do you do for a living?I tweet a few times a day but I spend at least 1 hour a day with that tool. If I am on a chat, I may spend 2+ hours on that day. You’ll understand why soon.
  4. This is only sample of all the SoMe tools out there. There are so many I couldn’t fit them all on this slide and still make it readable. The good new is you don’t have to be on all them. Twitter is one of the top 5 so it’s a great place to start. So let’s talk about it. In the webinar we talk in the Twitter platform, we tweet.
  5. Explain that Twitter is like a global water cooler. Everyone hangs around it talking smack. Conduct exercise:What are you passionate about? (Kids, golf, Movies, etc)Have everyone start writing sentences about their interest into the chat window for 1 minute (or less if it’s too much)“That’s pretty confusing wasn’t it? Now I want you to read through the chats and see if anything jumps out at you. If you find something go ahead and retype it again” (Give 1 minute or less) Next, if you found something interesting, go ahead and send a thanks just to that person, no one else. You just participated in a Twitter simulation.

  7. Discuss the 140 character limit which should be 120 characters to encourage RTs
  8. White board the answers from the chat window
  9. Tell the ICE planning story where the group was challenged to brainstorm keynote ideas. Instead of limiting the contributions to those in the group, I expanded it out to my twitter network and received several additional ideas that the live group hadn’t thought about. Twitter is becoming a reliable and vast search engine. Instead of algorithm’s content is categorized by our voices (or tweets)Demo a twitter search.
