Milk and Cookie Stories Exchange Street, Temple Bar Since Oct 2009 Non-profit storytelling group based in Dublin, Ireland. They’re looking to find out what stories our city has to tell. Storytelling, though very much a thriving art form, is rarely the focus of any event or performance. They believe that storytelling deserves to be placed in the spotlight. Dublin needs a place for people to come to hear a good story, and maybe tell one – Milk and Cookies aim to provide that place. Milk and Cookies isn’t just for writers and performers – they would like anyone who has a tale to tell, or wants to hear a story told well, to have a warm, relaxed environment to do just that. A place with tea, cushions, cookies and friends. 10/07/10 Designing Dublin 2.0 - Love the City
The Chatter Chair at The Point Village Market 2010 Saturday, May 29th The first meeting at the Point Village Market sees the launch of 6 x10, a narrative interactive installation, highlighting the old Irish craft of storytelling. The ‘6 x 10’ will take place on Saturday, May 29th between 2 & 3 where 10 speakers will talk for 6 min each on a given theme. The idea is that people will have the opportunity to regale a tale (whatever that might be!) to an audience in an informal, fun environment. The chair will then be opened up to be used by the public to share their stories or perhaps just a little bit of gossip! 10/07/10 Designing Dublin 2.0 - Love the City

SPIRASI SUMMER 2006 Art Project - Story Telling 2006 In summer 2006 22 participants gathered at SPIRASI to share and collect stories that they knew from their childhoods. Each story that was told triggered memories in others and over the weeks 22 different stories emerged. As they were narrated they were recorded and later on they were written down. The stories are all different and yet they are all strangely familiar. In this simple way they reflect both our diversity as peoples and our shared humanity. Our plan in 2007 is to produce a package of both this CD and its accompanying booklet and to make it available to schools throughout Ireland . We will also encourage schools to invite our newly trained story tellers to share their stories in person 10/07/10 Designing Dublin 2.0 - Love the City
The Baldwin Project USA 2000 Modern science books for children almost invariably are full of pictures, captions, insets, charts, tables and facts, but appear to be intended to be browsed rather than read. In our grandparents' age, however, it was thought that simply reading a fascinating explanation of what causes an earthquake, how an icicle forms, or how a rose blooms would be of great interest to children, and the genre of narrative science, was a popular one. The Baldwin Project currently offers three of the most popular narrative science books of yesteryear. While each of these books has wonderful illustrations, the main attraction is their excellent description of a wide variety of scientific phenomena, all directed at grammar school and junior high school age children. 10/07/10 Designing Dublin 2.0 - Love the City

It is a non-profit organisation, aimed at promoting the literature and writers in Ireland. Since it was founded in 1991, the Irish Writers’ Centre has welcomed many award winning writers through its doors, including Nobel, Costa, Man Booker, IMPAC, and Pulitzer Prize winners. It has also served as an important platform for breakthrough talent, with many young writers giving their first public readings here. Through a diverse programme of creative writing workshops, seminars, lectures and readings, the centre nurtures emerging talent and fosters relationships between writers and their Irish audience. Our creative writing students benefit from the guidance and insight of successful poets, novelists, and short story writers who themselves have been published. Many writing groups meet at the centre to exchange ideas and develop their writing, and the staff run a monthly book club, where the public are invited to come and be part of our thriving literary community. Our doors are always open and the centre itself is a peaceful sanctuary for writers to escape the bustling city that rumbles outside. We provide tea, coffee and free internet access to our members and welcome the public to come in and look around our extensive library and art collection.     10/07/10 Designing Dublin 2.0 - Love the City

  • 3. 8th Annual Slieve Bloom Storytelling Festival 2 – 16 Oct 2010 The stories that have been told for generations by the people who live on and around these mountains are bound up with the landscape, place names and the history of the area which stretches back to before the time of the druids, There are stories of invasions, plantations and rebellions, fairy lore and ghost stories, as well as the necessary yarns and tall tales which Irish people love.   Visitors to the Slieve Blooms will discover a new landscape of the imagination in these mountains and local people will rediscover the magic of the stories of their own place through the art of storytelling which will be brought to you by great storytellers, some local, who have all developed a keen interest in the revival of storytelling by featuring at the Storytelling Festivals in Ireland. 10/07/10 Designing Dublin 2.0 - Love the City

Irish Writers’ Centre Dublin 1991 - Current The Irish Writers’ Centre has long been a hub of literary activity in Dublin, supporting established and aspiring writers throughout Ireland from its base at the heart of Dublin's cultural quarter.
