Lesson plan
Song - Old Macdonald
Student’s age: 8 to 10
Timing: 30 minutes
Linguistic Contents:
Vocabulary: Farm animals.
Functions: verb had.
Phonology: animal sounds and letter sounds.
Activity for the song
The teacher divides the class into groups of 3 or 4 students. Each group receives a white poster
and an envelope with figures of different farm animals, including the ones that are mentioned in
the lyrics and some extra ones.
Next, the teacher shows flashcards on the board of different farm animals and their name below
each picture.
After that, the teacher presents the figure of Old MacDonald - telling them that he owns a farm
(she explains the meaning of it)- and asks the students to find it in the envelope and to glue the
figure somewhere in the poster.
Then the teacher plays the video. While the video is being played, the students have to find and
order the different pictures of the animals as they appear in it.
Once they had finished with this activity, if the pictures are not coloured they can do it. Finally,
the posters will be hanged on the walls and the whole class will sing the song all together.

Game
The teacher will divide the class into two groups and will give to one member of each group a
fly swatter with sticky tape on the top.
There will be two tables with pictures of the studied animals on them on the other side of the
classroom.
The teacher will name an animal and make its sound. At this moment, the two students with the
fly swatter on their hands, will run to the table and hit the correct picture. The first one that does
it wins.
