7. HELIKOPTER BIOGRAPHIE
Der russische Helikopter vom Typ Mil Mi 2T vom Baujahr 1968 „Sokol“ war in Polen im Kalten Krieg im
Grenzschutz eingesetzt, anschließend diente er der Landwirtschaft 10 Jahre als Sprühflieger. 2002 wurde er
von dem Garten- und Landschaftsbauunternehmer Georg Albrecht erworben, durch Umlackierung in Minz-
grün entmilitrarisiert, und wurde zum Spielhaus der Enkel (Sophia und Lisa) und Nachbarskinder. Von den
Münchner Galeristen Ulrich Richter und Lothar Keuler (Galerie Richter & Masset) in Beuern entdeckt, wurde er
in einer Kunstaktion gemeinsam mit dem Besitzersohn Michael Albrecht von fünf Künstlern (Won ABC, Beas-
tiestylez, Dog ISK, I ARE UGLY und Casiegraphics) in unterschiedlichen Techniken (Graffiti, Airbrush, Pinsel,
Fasermalerei) in ein Kunstwerk verwandelt - ein grellbuntes Fabelwesen, das seine eigene Geschichte „from
war to peace“ verkörpert.
Diese Geschichte erzählt die Verwandlung von einem Kriegsgerät zu einem friedlichen Werkzeug, zu einem
Spielobjekt, zu einem Kunstwerk und schließlich zum Markenzeichen des Eurpäischen Awards für „Pop
Surrealism and Urban Art“ als Emblem von „The Rise of Underground Art“ (vgl. Pop Surrealism: The Rise of

HELICOPTER BIOGRAPHY
A Russian helicopter of the type Mil Mi 2T, built in 1968 and known as the “Sokol”, first saw duty during the
Cold War in Poland, where it was used to patrol the national border. Afterwards it served agricultural purpo-
ses as a crop duster for ten years. The landscaper Georg Albrecht purchased it in 2002, demilitarized it by
painting it mint green, and gave it a new use as a playhouse for his grandchildren and other children in the
neighborhood. Discovered in Beuern by the Munich-based gallery owners Ulrich Richter and Lothar Keuler from
Galerie Richter & Masset, the helicopter underwent an artistic intervention at the hands of the owner’s son Mi-
chael Albrecht and five artists (Won ABC, Beastiestylez, Dog ISK, I ARE UGLY and Casiegraphics), who used
various techniques (graffiti, airbrush, brush and fiber paint) to transform the aircraft into an artwork – a brightly
colored fabulous creature that embodies its history “from war to peace.” This story recounts the transformation
of a military equipment into a peaceable instrument, a playground, an artwork and finally into the trademark
of the first European “Pop Surrealism an Urban Art Award” as an emblem of “The Rise of Underground Art”

13. DEFINITION von Urban Art und Pop Surrealismus
Urban Art ist eine Kunstrichtung die sich auf die Städte und das Stadtleben bezieht und von solchen
Künstlern produziert wird, die das Stadtleben lieben oder eine besondere Leidenschaft dafür entwickeln. Der
Begriff „Urban“ heißt „aus der Stadt“. Manchmal wird Urban Art auch als Street Art bezeichnet.
Pop Surrealism oder Lowbrow Art beschreibt eine Kunstbewegung aus dem Untergrund, der in der
Umgebung von Los Angeles, Kalifornien in den späten 70er Jahren entstand. Lowbrow ist eine weit verbreitete
populäre Kunstbewegung mit Anfängen im Untergrund aus der Welt des Comic, der Punk Musik, der soge-
nannten „Hot Rod“-Straßenkultur und anderen Subkulturströmungen. Lowbrow-Kunst besitzt oft einen Sinn für
Humor, manchmal ist der Humor fröhlich, manchmal schelmisch, machmal ist es sarkastischer Kommentar. Die
meisten Lowbrow-Kunstwerke sind Gemälde, doch gibt es auch Spielzeuge, digitale Kunst und Skulpturen.
DEFINITION of Urban Art and Pop Surrealism
Urban art is a style of art that relates to cities and city life often done by artists who live in or have a
passion for city life. The term urban means „from the city“. Sometimes Urban art is called Street Art.
Pop Surrealism or lowbrow art, describes an underground visual art movement that arose in the
Los Angeles, California, area in the late 1970s. Lowbrow is a widespread populist art movement with origins
in the underground comix world, punk music, hot-rod street culture, and other subcultures. Lowbrow art often
has a sense of humour - sometimes the humour is gleeful, sometimes impish, and sometimes it‘s a sarcastic
comment. Most lowbrow artworks are paintings, but there are also toys, digital art, and sculpture.

14. Zur GESCHICHTE von Pop Surrealismus und Urban Art in Europa
Das Mutterland des Pop Surrealismus und der Urban Art sind eindeutig die USA. New York ist die Ursprungs-
stadt des (Subway) Graffitis und der Urban Art, die Lowbrow Art ihrerseits hat ihre Wurzeln in L.A. und San
Francisco. Das Magazin “Juxtapoz“, von Robert Williams, dem „odfather der Lowbrow Art“, gegründet, ist
mittlerweile die am häufigsten gelesene Kunstzeitschrift in den USA. Über den langen Arm Hollywoods wurde
die Pop Kultur sukzessive über die ganze Welt verbreitet (Tim Burton).
InEuropa sind die Ursprünge vielfältiger. Die erste öffentliche Galerie entstand durch künstlerisch gestal-
tete Werbeplakate, auf kilometerlangen Bretterzäunen im Paris der 1870er Jahre während der Umgestaltung
der Stadt durch Baron Haussmann. So lieferten Plakatmaler wie Toulouse Lautrec, Alfons Mucha, Theophile
Steinlen, Leonetto Cappiello und Jules Chéret die Ikonen der frühen europäischen Pop Kultur. In Bayern baute
der vielleicht erste unfreiwillige Popsurrealist König Ludwig II. fantastisch überbordende Märchenschlösser.
In Barcelona veränderten Gaudis surreale Architekturen das Stadtbild. Anders als in der neuen Welt wurde
die europäische Pop Kultur durch zwei Weltkriege gebrochen. Die neu erstarkte Kunstkritik (Rosenblum und
Greenberg) in der westlichen Nachkriegszeit erhob die abstrakte Kunst zum Markenzeichen künstlerischer
Freiheit. Die figurative Kunst war daher nicht mehr angesagt. Erst die Dominanz von Subkultur (Hippies) und
politischer Kultur (68er Bewegung) weichte das Dogma ausschließlich nicht- gegenständlicher Kunst auf. Als
der frankobelgische Comic aufblühte, und im „swinging London“ und in Amsterdam Jugendkultur und Popkultur
entstanden, konnte sich die Rebellion gegen die einschränkende Vernunft zugunsten der Freiheit der Fantasie
figürlich entfalten. Urban Art Künstler aus London wie Banksy, aus Amsterdam z.B. The London Police und aus
Deutschland Daim, Loomit und WON ABC sind mittlerweile weltweit bekannt. Ereignisse wie die erste Urban
Art Messe „Stroke 01“ in München 2009, das Nuart Festival in Norwegen, und „Né dans la rue“ in Paris so-
wie etliche Ausstellungen europäischer Galerien (Strychnin/Berlin, Iguapop/Barcelona, StolenSpace/London,
Spacejunk/Bayonne, Dorothy Circus/Rom, Merry Karnowsky/Los Angeles–Berlin, Intoxicated demons/Berlin,
Feinkunst Krüger/Hamburg, Galerie Richter & Masset/München) stehen für die wachsende öffentliche Auf-
merksamkeit gegenüber diesen Kunstströmungen.

15. The HISTORY of Pop Surrealism and Urban Art in Europe
The home country of Pop Surrealism and Urban Art is USA. New York is the city of origin for (Subway) Grafitti
and Urban Art. Lowbrow Art has its roots in LA and San Francisco. The magazine “Juxtapoz” which was foun-
ded by Robert Williams, the godfather of Lowbrow Art, is in the meantime the mostly read art magazine in the
USA. Pop Culture gradually spread over the whole world through the influence of Hollywood (Tim Burton).
InEurope the origins are more diverse. The first public gallery consisted of artistically designed adver-
tisement posters on the endless hoardings in Paris in the 1870´s during Baron Haussmann´s remodelling of the
city. Hence such poster artists as Toulouse Lautrec, Alfons Mucha, Theophile Steinien, Leonetto Cappiello and
Jules Che´ret became the first idols of early European Pop Culture. In Bavaria King Ludwig II, in building the
fantastically excessive fairytale castles became the first, albeit, involuntary Pop Surrealist. Similarly Gaudi’s
surrealistic architecture changed the cityscape of Barcelona. In contrast to the new world, the European Pop
Culture was crushed in the event of the two World Wars. The new top art critics (Rosenbaum and Greenberg)
of western post war art raised abstract art up to being the trademark of artistic freedom. Figurative art was no
longer popular. Only when subcultures (hippies) and political cultures (1968 movement) became dominant did
the dogma of solely non-figurative art give way. When the Franco Belgian comics flourished and the youth cult
and pop cult developed in “swinging London” and in Amsterdam the rebellion against the restrictive intellect
was able to figuratively unfold in favour of the freedom of fantasy. Urban Art artists from London such as Bank-
sy, and The London Police from Amsterdam and Daim, Loomit and WON ABC from Germany are meanwhile
known worldwide. Events such as the first Urban Art Fair “Stroke 01” in Munich in 2009, the Nuart Festival
in Norway and “ Ne´dans la rue” in Paris together with several exhibitions in European galleries (Strych-
nin/Berlin, Iguapop/Barcelona, Stolen Space/London, Spacejunk/Bayonne, Dorothy Circus/Rome, Merry
Karnowsky/Los Angeles - Berlin, Intoxicated demons/Berlin, Feinkunst Krüger/Hamburg, Galerie Richter &
Masset/München) are indicative of the growing public interest in these art trends.

20. WON ABC WON wurde 1967 in Weiden in der
Oberpfalz geboren. Sehr früh begann
bei dem Wahlmünchner die illegale
Künstler Kariere. Bereits 1984 zog er
mit Spraydosen bewaffnet um die Häu-
ser. Elf Jahre später erhält er seinen Ab-
schluss als Meisterschüler, Klasse Robin
Page, für freie Malerei an der Akade-
mie der bildenden Künste in München.
Seine grafische Novelle “COLOUR KA-
MiKAZE” erschien 1999.
WON (born 1967 in Germany) is the most famous German subculture
artist in the field of graffiti and street art, member of ABC Crew. His
reputation shines through all layers of youth culture. Especially the fields
of subculture art, hip hop and electronic music are his strongest fellow-
ships. He studied at the Art University in Munich, sold lots of his work
to contemporary collections and published a well known book, called
“COLOUR KAMiKAZE”. The most important magazines cooperate with
him. His work is shown in exhibitions all over the world. Major com-
panies give him creative jobs and missions for example Microsoft for
Xbox360 or the spring summer 2007 campaign for CARHARTT Europe.
Even other international known artists, such as HR Giger show him big

22. BEASTIESTYLEZ Beastiestylez ist eine popsurrealistische Künstlerin, aus München, mit
viel Gefühl für Farben und Formen. Wie Alice im Wunderland bewegt
sie sich in ihrer ganz eigene Welt, die meist von Mythen und Mär-
chen inspiriert ist. Ihre unverkennbaren Figuren erzählen immer wieder
verschiedene phantasievolle Geschichten. Es werden sowohl sozialkri-
tische, als auch märchenhafte und makabere Themen behandelt, die sie
mit reichlich Charme und Witz vermittelt.
Unterschiedliche Spritztechniken stehen in direktem Kontrast zu genauen
Linien und klaren Formen. Die teilweise verwendeten fluoreszierenden
Farben faszinieren durch ihre besondere Leuchtkraft. Die Einarbeitung
von Collagen verleihen den Bildern einen ganz eigenen Character.
Beastiestylez is a popsurrealism artist from Munich with much sence of
colours and shapes. Like Alice in Wonderland she’s traveling through
her own world which is inspired by myths and fairy tales. Her unique
characters always tell little fanciful stories. They are socially critical as
well as magical and ghoulish at the same time. She arranges the stories
with abounding charme and esprit.
Various splattertechnics contrast strongly with exact lines and well-defi-
ned forms. Partly used fluorescent colours are fascinating due to there
special luminance. In combination with collages her artpieces rises to

24. I ARE UGLY I ARE UGLY ist mit Leib und Seele Designer, er bringt seine Charakter
aber auch gerne mit Marker oder Dose auf Leinwand, Holz oder Beton.
Aus dem Graffiti/Skateboard-Bereich kommend, hat sich im Lauf der
Jahre, auch unter dem Einfluss des Studiums, sein eigener Stil entwi-
ckelt. Freche Tier-Charakter mit sauberen Outlines und klaren Flächen
im Comic Stil sind typisch für seine Arbeit. Seinen lustigen und auch
manchmal bösartigen Figuren haben schon so manchen Betrachter ein
Schmunzeln entlockt. So barbarisch seine Figuren auch manchmal sein
mögen, sie haben immer etwas Liebenswertes an sich.
I ARE UGLY is a Munich based design-freak who loves to demonstrate
his passion for street art and to express his own character by using
markers and cans on wood, concrete or canvas. Although the artist’s
roots are unquestionably to be found in skateboarding and graffiti wri-
ting, over the years (also influenced by his studies of communication de-
sign) he has developed his own, distinctive style and graphic approach.
I ARE UGLY is best known for his expressive, comic style characters that
are distinguished by exact outlines and clear surfaces. A large amount
of his inspiration comes from his guiding principle “WE IS ALL UGLY”.
Hereby he is not referring to the superficial, optical ugliness of human
beings but far more to the inner defectiveness that is to be found in each
and every one of us. His humorous and not seldom mischievous figures
are guaranteed to bring a grin to the face of those who observe his cre-
ations. No matter how barbaric and evil I ARE UGLY’s characters might
seem, they always reflect something lovable.

26. CASIEGRAPHICS Ursprünglich kommt Casiegraphics aka Stefanie Haslberger aus Mün-
chen und lebt momentan als freiberufliche Illustratorin, Künstlerin und
Grafik Designerin in Berlin. Sie hat in Augsburg, München, London und
Paris studiert und gearbeitet. Casiegraphics nimmt ihre Inspiration von
Fabeln, Tiere, Natur, Mythen und Taxidermie, welche ihre Arbeiten sehr
beeinflussen sowie ihre frühe Graffiti und Street Art Laufbahn. Sie expe-
rimentiert mit verschiedenen Techniken und Materialien und kreiert da-
mit faszinierende Papierschnitte, Collagen und Zeichnungen. Stefanie
ist momentan vertreten durch ANIllustration acency in London.
Stefanie Haslberger aka Casiegraphics is an Illustrator, Artist and Gra-
phic Designer based in Berlin, Germany. Originating from southern
Germany, Stefanie has lived, worked and studied in Munich, Paris and
London. Her postgraduate degree in Illustration was obtained at the
Fachhochschule in Augsburg and the London College of Communica-
tion. During her time in London Stefanie fell in love with the bustling
city and as a result plans to return in early 2010. Stefanie takes much
inspiration from animals, nature, fables, myths and taxidermy which
are evident in her portfolio and also in her early graffiti writing ca-
reer. Stefanie indulges in numerous visits to Natural History museums to
arouse her imagination and is an avid collector of old science books.
She strives in experimenting with different materials and techniques and
creates papercut artwork, collages and drawings. Stefanie is currently

28. DOG ISK
Stefan Füll wurde am 15.April 1982 in München geboren. Sein vier-
jähriges Studium an der Freien Kunstwerkstatt München schloss er
als Druckgrafiker und Illustrator ab. Seitdem ist er als freischaffender
Künstler in den Bereichen Skulptur, Gravur, Airbrush, Malerei und Ra-
dierungen tätig. Die Werke von Stefan Füll waren seit 2001 auf 29
Ausstellungen zu sehen.
Stefan Füll was born in 1982 in Munich. After 4 years of studying at
Freien Kunstwerkstatt Munich graduated as a Druckgrafiker and illustra-
tor. From there on he worked as a freelancing artist in range of sculp-
ture, engraving, airbrush, painting and etching. You could see Stefan
Füll‘s works in over 29 exhibitions since 2001.
