This presentation is about keeping up with information not necessarily about creating content.
You have probably seen similar videos before. But as this one plays, write down any thoughts/feelings you have about what you are hearing/seeing.Have group share what they wrote down – either verbally or they can pass in the sheets of paper and I’ll read aloud.
So social tools have been around for a long time. How many of have been members of listservs or discussion forums before there ever was a FaceBook, Twitter, Linkedin, etc!Just wondering if everyone is already taking advantage of the ILTA community. If not, I would encourage you to do that. My personal favorite is the discussion groups. I would encourage you to subscribe to the group that meet your needs and interest. I like to get the individual e-mails and I just have a rule in Outlook to shoot them to a folder. Then I use a search on the subject to pull together specific questions. But you can also go out to the ILTA site and keep up with what is going on there or get e-mails in digest form.
You will find out that I like to have content pushed to me or pulled together so that I can view it in once place rather than bouncing around from web site to web site or remembering to do searches to keep up. Twilert – send you e-mails on any search term that you want.Bufferapp – lets you quickly post tweets that are then buffered and released over a period of time so your followers do not get a whole list of tweets at once.Any other tools that you would add to this list?
More and more businesses and organizations are going on FaceBook. Who has time to check all of those pages. What if those updates could come to you! LOVEHyperAlerts! It can be a little buggy to setup. If at first you don’t succeed. Try, try again.Any other ideas/thoughts about Facebook?
Linkedin is about who you are connected to. Some people post updates regularly, some do not. Groups can be a useful tool for networking with others in your industry, getting ideas, asking quesitons, and sharing expertise. Social networking is about building your online identity. Blogging and microblogging with tools like Linkedin and Twitter are two really good ways to do it.To keep up with Linkedin, I use Hootsuite which I will talk about later and have e-mail notifications for updates in groups.
Social media dashboards can help you manage the information that you have coming in and connect the 3 most popular social media tools in one place – Twitter, Facebook, & Linkedin. My personal favorite is Hootsuite, but there are a whole list of other ones out there. Other popular ones I have heard about include Seesmic and Cotweet.
Look for mobile apps so you can keep up on the go! What are your favorite mobile apps? Mine is Flipboard for iPad!
Social bookmarking that lets you tag items with several keywords and also see others who have tagged similar items, can share with others, so good be a good team toolAdd-in for Internet Explorer is very robust, Google Chrome is minimal, but does have easy bookmarking
