William Shakespeare
   Considered by many
    the greatest English
    writer of all times.
    Wrote 38 plays.
   He observed human
    nature and wrote
    about human
    feelings.
   He had a skill in
    creating new words
The Globe Theater
   Most of
    Shakespeare’s plays
    were performed at
    the Globe.
   It was built by
    Richard and
    Cuthbert Burbage
    about half a mile
    from London Bridge.
   James Burbage built
    the first permanent
    playhouse called
    “The Theater”
Stage and seating arrangements of
     an Elizabethan Theatre
   Open to the sky
   Actors performed on
    the main stage,
    behind the curtains or
    balcony.
   No fixed stage,
    artificial heads, cages,
    animals etc.
   For a single penny you
    could sit on the floor
Different livehoods that reflected
the character of London during the
             mid- 1500´s
   Boater: Reflected transportation through the
    river
   Water carriers: Reflected the lack of plumbing
    in London.
   Cappers: Reflected the necesity to keep people
    busy, preventing riots on the streets.
   Barbers: Reflected English men concerned with
    personal appearance.
   Rogue: Reflected the lack of jobs available.
   Jailers: Reflected crime
