Energy can be converted from one form to another but is never used up. There are various sources of energy that can be used to generate electricity. Fossil fuels like gas, coal, and oil as well as renewable fuels like wood are burned to create heat, which boils water into steam. The steam then spins turbines connected to electrical generators.
