MARIA MAIKILING
One of the most popular places in
Laguna is the Mount Makiling. The
dormant volcano, which is 1,109 meters
above sea level, is named after the
mountain’s diwata named Makiling. A
diwata is a female divinity that is a
guardian of nature. Some call her
Maria Makiling, Diwatang Makiling or
simply Makiling. She is both revered
and feared. The mountain itself is said
to be in the form of Diwatang Makiling
herself, in a reclining position.

Taal Volcano is a complex volcano
located on the island of Luzon in the
Philippines.[1]
It is the second most
active volcano in the Philippines with
33 historical eruptions. All of these
eruptions are concentrated on
Volcano Island, an island near the
middle of Taal Lake. The lake partially
fills Taal Caldera, which was formed by
prehistoric eruptions between 140,000
to 5,380 BP.[2]

Marikina River and San Juan River.



26. The Moriones is an annual festival held
on Holy Week on the island
of Marinduque, Philippines. The
"Moriones" are men and women in
costumes and masks replicating the
garb of biblical Roman soldiers as
interpreted by local folks. The
Moriones or Moryonan tradition has
inspired the creation of other festivals
in the Philippines where cultural
practices or folk history is turned into
street festivals.
