Chapter 16 Activity and Lab Handout
Below are specific instructions or modifications to the activities and labs within Chapter 16. Please refer
to this handout and the procedures in your textbook to complete these assignments.
1. Activity 16.1 (page 481)
a. Follow the directions and copy the first 2 paragraphs on page 484 (methods of forgery) to
finish the assignment on a separate sheet of paper.
b. Turn in your copied paragraphs and your comments on the 12 criteria.
2. Activity 16.2 (pages 484 – 485)
a. Complete the activity as explained in your textbook using the handout provided.
b. For your lab notebook, staple in the completed handout and write the answers for letters R,
S and T.
3. Activity 16.3 (pages 486 – 487)
a. Follow the procedure as outlined in the book. You will be copying the signature I give you
according to these directions
b. For your lab notebook: include materials and procedure, attach the forged signatures, and
answer the last question.
4. Activity 16.4 (pages 487 – 488)
a. Follow the procedure as outlined in the book. Be sure to leave enough room between your
signatures to complete the rest of the assignment.
b. Measure all of your letter angles and record them above or below your signature.
c. For your lab notebook: include materials and procedure, your 4 signatures with measurements
and answer the analysis questions #1 – 7in your notebook.
5. Activity 16.5 (page 489)
a. Follow the procedure as outlined in your book. Be sure to leave enough room between them to
complete the rest of the assignment.
b. Use the tracing paper to draw the line of the top and bottom of your signature. Cut these lines
out and tape them next to each signature.
c. For your lab notebook: include materials and procedure, your 4 signatures, the tracing paper
lines, and observations about the similarities and differences among the signatures.
6. Lab 16.3 (page 498)
a. Follow the procedure as outlined in your book.
b. Complete the data sheet provided with the following information: measure of absorbance, pH
of paper, weight of paper, water marks, UV light, and tear pattern.
c. For your lab notebook: include materials and procedure and staple the completed data sheet
into your notebook.
7. Lab 16.6 (page 503)
a. Follow the procedure as outlined in your book

your observations.
