3. As Liberia works to rebuild following many years of violence, leadership has been acknowledged as a key factor in the country’s future success. Leadership Africa USA’s work aims to help Liberia’s future leaders develop skills they can use to contribute to their country’s peaceful future. 4. The first component of Leadership Africa USA’s program in Liberia was an essay competition. High school students submitted essays describing their opinions on the role of youth leadership in conflict resolution, peace building, and governance. Essay Competition Participant Monrovia, Liberia

6. In addition to the essay competition, Leadership Africa USA hosted a two day workshop on youth leadership and peace building, in partnership with Alfalit International-Liberia, Inc. 7. As part of this project, a book – “Africa’s Youth Define Leadership” – containing 11 essays by students from nine African countries was compiled and published.
