- A slide showing that ownership precedes prevention, care and mitigation. Prevention, care and mitigation are necessary but not sufficient. Stimulating local ownership is the missing element in the global strategy. We acknowledge that communities need condoms, ARVs and commodities to repond to the issue. However, our experiences tells us that the community response (ownership) is essential.

- Stories from Philippines (street children in Iloilo acknowledge, address vulnerabilities, measure their own progress), India (inclusion of infected woman (see story from Jayakar) ) (mobilizing resources with Indian sex workers story from Prabakar), etc. People identify and address their vulnerabilities Ex: Street children in the Philippines assess their risk and go back to school Change in the way of working Ex: Youth in Walis Station focuses more on strengths Communities mobilize their own and external resources Ex: Sex workers in India set up a savings fund Improved situation of PLHIV and affected people Ex: In India several communities started to include PLHIV like Koteshwari Through SALT approach, saving group members of women have started including PLHIV in the group. A HIV positive woman, Koteshwari, was deserted by her husband. Her community also ostracized her. However, with SALT approach the community accepted her and provided her help. Similarly a group of PLHIV in Guntur District had lost hope. With group discussions during a SALT visit, they realized that by their efforts they could save their families and other from the epidemic. They are now engaged in awareness, arranging ART and in efforts to support themselves financially.
