Subterranean Homesick Blues

3. Jason Mraz –
I Won't Give Up (Lyric Video)
• I admire this video for the simple fact that it has provided
me with inspiration that had lead to the final idea of my
music video.
• Although its not the artists official video, its only a lyric
video created by somebody else, it is very similar to my
own idea for my video.
• The lyrics appear written on objects and pieces of paper
all over the place, such as envelopes. This is very similar
to my idea, however I am writing on playing cards
instead.
4. The Script –
For The First Time
• http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DTQsJ6ZaOQ
• I like this video for its contrast of both narrative and
performance. The narrative tells a story which captivates
the audience to watch it, whilst the performance focuses
on the band members which also captivates an
audience.
• This video has given me inspiration as I plan on doing
both a performance and narrative based music video.
• Some of the performance part is in black and white,
which is an effect I would like to include on my
performance part of the video.
5. OneRepublic –
Good Life
• http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZhQOvvV45w
• This music video is shot through a vintage lense, giving
an effect which I love. Given the opportunity I would love
to film my music video with a lense like this, however it
wouldn’t fit with my idea.
• I like how each person in the video, is holding up some
form of card in which it appears that the band are
performing from inside it. I really admire the way this
music video as it has really given me some inspiration
and ideas to potentially use in my own music video.
6. Train –
Hey, Soul Sister
• http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVpv8-
5XWOI&feature=related
• This music video is also narrative and performance
based, I prefer these types of videos as they are more
interesting to watch and don’t just focus on the band or
artist.
• I like how some of the lyrics appear on the screen when
the man sings through out the video, I plan to
incorporate something like this into my video.
7. Mumford & Sons –
Little Lion Man
• http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7bHe--mp1g
• I really like the beginning of this music video, as it
includes lots of close ups and extreme close ups of both
the band and the instruments in which they are playing.
This has given me an idea to include shots like this in my
own video, as it makes it more interesting and varies the
types of shots that I can use.
• I also really like the location in which this video is shot, if
I was purely doing a performance based video I would
want to shoot in this location. Its very simple video, but i
prefer a more simple video than one that has to much
going on.
8. Bruno Mars –
Just The Way You Are
• http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjhCEhWiKXk
• I listen to a wide variety of music, and while watching a
music channel last week the music video to this song
came on. I hadn't seen it before, but I immediately liked
the quirky idea of the tape forming words and pictures
throughout the music video. It is something that I hadn't
seen before, and I think its fits the video really well.
