of the Bones

2. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, you should be
able to explain the different ways in
which you can take good care of your
skeletal system.

3. Some good tips:

Maintain good posture: Bad or incorrect posture can cause abnormal
stress on joints that carry weight. This stress on the bones can contribute
to disease of the joints.

Exercise regularly: Exercise can improve the strength of the bones.
Exercising the joints can also protect the joints from sprain.

Drink your Milk: Milk and dairy products are rich in calcium. As you
already know, calcium is needed to make your bones hard and
strong.

Eat healthy foods: Broccoli, sardines and fish are also rich in calcium.
Check the labels of the food you buy from the grocery. If they are
calcium fortified then it will also be good for your bones.

4. Some good tips:

Brush your teeth: Your teeth are part of your
bones. Clean them regularly with brushing to
prevent the build up of plaque and to prevent
your gums from getting infected.

Be careful: Fractures, dislocations, sprain and
strain are usually caused by accidents. So being
careful can help prevent these. Be aware of
accidents that can damage your bones. Take
action to prevent all these.

Vitamin D is also important for the bones not
because the bone uses this vitamins, but it helps
the body absorb calcium. Even if you take in
plenty of calcium but you lack vitamin D, your
body will not be able to absorb and use calcium.
