Statement of Purpose
 Due March 6, 2013
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
 As the name signifies, the Statement
 of Purpose is your personal
statement about who you are, what
has influenced your career path so
 far, your professional interests and
where you plan to go from here. It
need not be a bald statement of
 facts.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
 Who are you? How did you get where you are today?

 A statement of purpose can be anything you want to
  learn about.

a. How to speak French.
b. I took French in high school and college.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
                          Outline

1 Foreign languages are required in high school in order
   to graduate.

a. I had no idea what language I wanted to choose.
b. I always thought French was a beautiful language, but
how often would I use it in life?

c. I chose French instead of Spanish because my best
   friend was taking French.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
                                   Sample paragraph

Foreign languages are required in high school in order to
graduate. I had no idea what language I wanted to choose. I always
thought French was a beautiful language, but how often would I use it in
life? My mom insisted that I take Spanish because she figured it would
be more useful in my future career. Many people in this area speak
Spanish as opposed to French. My mom figured I would have more job
opportunities if I were fluent in Spanish. Like all kids, I did exactly the
opposite of what my mom wanted. I chose French instead of Spanish
because my best friend was taking French. After taking two years of
French in high school and four semesters in college, I can speak
approximately 20 words in French. Had I taken Spanish, I could have
had more opportunities as a bilingual teacher in elementary education.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
 My second paragraph Is going to be about my
  experience in high school.

 My third paragraph is going to be about my experience
  in college.

 My last paragraph is going to sum up that I took French
instead of Spanish. I could have had more
  opportunities…blah blah blah…

 So this is a four paragraph essay.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
 It’s ok to have four paragraphs even though the paper
  says five.

 You don’t have to have 900 words. I am just looking for
  well thought out longer paragraphs.

 You statement of purpose can be anything you have an
  opinion about.

 For example, gun control, legalizing marijuana, and the
legal age for drinking and driving.
