• MPI awarded a grant to implement a Navigator program in
the seven counties in WNC
• Counties: Clay, Cherokee, Haywood, Graham, Jackson,
Swain, Macon
• Local and personal assistance
• Community education and partnership agencies
• 5.5 employees- covering the 7 counties of WNC-Navigators
• Volunteers trained and more needed

PLATINUM: Minimum Essential Benefits/Insurance pays 90% of covered expenses
CATASTROPHIC: Meet all QHP requirements but only cover 3 primary care visits
annually until deductible is met. Must be under 30 or receive a hardship exemption.

Navigators are certified to provide unbiased, impartial and FREE assistance to individual consumers and small businesses navigate and understand their options for more affordable health care insurance through the marketplace or healthcare exchange. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 amended by the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 are referred to collectively as the "Affordable Care Act" or the ACA. Motivation to assist local community with implementation. Approx 30,000 uninsured. Needed local entity for local residents.
Open enrollment started October1 with 8 million people attempting to log into the server. This cause considerable delays. However the Marketplace website was not"shut down" Now more servers have been added and 9,000-10,000 Agents are online to assist with telephonic enrollment or trouble shoot server issues. On OCtober 10, there were approximately 1,000,000 transactions fielded with 1/3 of these chat agents.The good news is that you have until December 15 to complete enrollment - however enrollment is not complete until the first ,months premium is paid. Insurance may cancel coverage is payment is not received
