Benefits of Vitamin D
1. Benefits of Vitamin D
Vitamin D Provide Very Little Health Benefits
Consuming vitamin D supplements to prevent cancer, heart disease and fractures provide very little if any
benefits, a new study has proved.
Vitamin D, often call the sunshine vitamin, has been used consumed with foods like milk for decades in
Canada and Northern Europe.
Vitamin D pills gained popularity after the researches linked it to a reduced risk of multiple sclerosis,
diabetes and breast cancers. But the more controlled trials have however don’t support any kind of
analogy between the vitamin and gaining health benefits.
Now research that was based on 40 trials on the effect of vitamin D has proved that the pills would
provide very little health benefits.
Vitamin D Supplements Not Necessary for Many
“In view of our findings, there is little justification for prescribing vitamin D supplements to prevent
myocardial infarction or ischemic heart disease, stroke or cerebrovascular disease, cancer or fractures,
or to reduce the risk of death in unselected community-dwelling individuals,” Dr. Mark Bolland of the
University of Auckland in New Zealand and his fellow researchers concluded.
Critics however said that there are certain types of people who can still benefit from vitamin D
supplements said Glenville Jones, a biochemistry professor at the Queen’s University in Kingston, Ont.
Jones was also part of the panel that concluded that the majority of Americans and Canadians are getting
enough vitamin D to fulfill their body requirements.
