Response Phases
-Eliminate sources of sparks or flames

-Dispose of contaminated absorbents
properly

Determine response
• Response team notified if:

exists for ground water contamination
-Spill cannot be contained resulting in
water or soil contamination

Techniques of control
-Diverting- Controlled movement of the
material to an area where effects will
produce less harm
-Diking- Use of a barrier which prevents
passage of the material to an area of
potential harm
-Retaining- Temporary containment
where it can be absorbed, neutralized
or picked-up
