1. How to integrate GeoVision Card Readers with
Access Controller and GV-System

Summary
The GeoVision card readers can integrate your current access controller with GV-System to
have access control and video surveillance working together. The GeoVision card readers are
connected between any access controller and GV-System. When a card is presented to the
card reader, the card reader will send the card data to both connected access controller and
GV-System. The GeoVision card readers can seamlessly and efficiently integrate the access
control system into video surveillance system to ease monitoring tasks and increase security.

2. To connect GV-Reader
Connect GV-Reader to the access controller through the Wiegand interface by wiring Red,
Black, Green and White lines from the card reader. Then connect the RS-485 interface of
GV-Reader to the GV-System via GV-COM V2, GV-Hub V2 or GV-NET/IO Card V3.1. These
devices are connected as illustrated below.

For this integration, you need to set GV-Reader to Salve mode by turning the switch No. 4 off
as illustrated below.

It is possible to connect multiple GV-Readers to a GV-System through RS-485 interface. You
just need to define every GV-Reader’s ID number by using the switch No. 5, No 6 and No 7.

3. To connect GV-RK1352 / GV-R1352
Connect GV-RK1352 / GV-R1352 to the access controller through the Wiegand interface by
wiring Red, Black, Green and White lines from the card reader. Then connect the RS-485
interface of the card reader to the GV-System via GV-COM V2, GV-Hub V2 or GV-NET/IO
Card V3.1. These devices are connected as illustrated below.

For this integration, you need to set GV-RK1352 / GV-R1352 to Salve mode by using the
supplied configuration utility as illustrated below. It is possible to connect multiple GV-RK1352
/ GV-R1352 to a GV-System through RS-485 interface. You just need to define every card
reader’s ID number. For details on the supplied configuration utility, see the RK1352
Installation Guide or R1352 Installation Guide.

4. To set up GV-System
To add GeoVision card readers to GV-System, follow these steps:
1. Click the Configure button, and select GV Wiegand Capture Device Setting. This
dialog box appears.
2. Click the New button. This dialog box appears.
Device: Give a name to the card reader.
COM: Select the COM port that GV-COM V2, GV-Hub V2 or GV-NET/IO Card V3.1
is connected to.
Address: Select the ID of the card reader when multiple card readers are
connected together to GV-System.
Camera: Assign the card reader to a channel on which card data will be displayed.

5. 3. After above settings, click Add to add the card reader to GV-System.
4. Present the card to the card reader to see if the card number is overlaid on the assigned
channel, as shown below.

5. To display more card information, such as card holder, company name and photo, you
need to create the database by using the Microsoft Access program.
A. Locate the default database:GV folderGVWTDatabaseRegistered to create card
database by using Microsoft Access.
B. Locate the default photo storage folder:GV
folderGVWTDatabaseRegisterImage to store card holders’ photos. The
maximum of image size should be 100 x 100 pixels in BMP format.

6. 6. After setting up the database, present the card to the card reader to see if the card data
you created are overlaid on the assigned channel, as shown below.

Note: You can the Text Overlay function to change the font and position of text, the position
of photo on the live view.
