2. Definition
A Content Management System (CMS) is a
computer program that allows publishing, editing and
modifying content as well as maintenance from a
central interface. Such systems of content
management provide procedures to manage workflow
in a collaborative environment.
CMS is software for creating, editing and
maintaining online content.
CMS can allow users to upload different types of
content - including text, pictures, records, blogs and
video.

Reduce the cost of site maintenance
Streamline the authoring process
Increase security
Greater consistency
Reduce information duplication
Improve site navigation
Increase site flexibility
Support remote authoring
Increase growth capacity

4. Types of CMS
1. Proprietary CMS
Proprietary CMS web platforms are completely opposite to
the basic structure of Open Source. That structure being
that most if not all proprietary web platforms have
ongoing license fees which the user / client is expected
to pay.
2. Open source CMS
Open Source CMS as a type of web platform, is primarily
free software which is made available to the general
public under a GNU (General Public License)

Can contract any open source developer
