9. On Your Visit to Morris-Jumel The Jumel’s front parlor is an excellent example of a mid-19 th century, New York interior. Many of the furnishings in this room originally belonged to the Jumel family, and were purchased at auction in New York or brought back from Paris, where the couple lived for much of the 1820s. The morning glory wallpaper seen here is an exact reproduction of the paper the Jumels ordered from France. A panel of the original paper is on view in the second floor hallway. The wall-to-wall Wilton carpet was made by Scalamandre, and is ased on photoocumentation from the second half of the 19 th century. Since the images were black and white, only the decorative motifs and their scale are exact. The colors are mathed with other documentary evidence such as the wallpaper.
