PRESIDENT’S REPORT 2011-12
DUTIES ROSTER PRES. JANET HOLDING
I’m sitting here in Dubai writing this report to present to you at the Handover
Dinner on the 23rd June which unfortunately I will miss, but looking back over
the year we have again had a successful one.
MEETING DATE: 26TH JUNE
The board has worked well together to organise events for both fundraising
WELCOMING: Fred Rae and social purposes and I would like to thank everyone for their input.
Joanna Kendall
HOST CHAIR: TBA Mike Evans - Club Services.
GRACE: Aidan Wood Mike has put in an amazing effort to ensure the smooth running of the club
LOYAL TOAST: Gren Courtland and has kept the guest speaker schedule ticking along nicely. I was happy
INT/ROTARY INFO: Brian Webster to continue running the guest speaker schedule from Dianne’s year where all
members were responsible on a roster basis for seeking out entertaining and
informative speakers throughout the year. This is a great club effort that we
should continue so that the burden does not fall on one person. Good luck
Mike and wishing you a successful year ahead.
New Host Chair &
Duties Roster to be Peter Richardson – Community Services.
Thank you for all your efforts in fundraising this year and for continuing to
released in the next bulletin work on the mental health forum, which as Dianne said last year, has the
potential to become bigger than Ben Hur.
Hugh Langridge – Foundation and Public Relations.
Hugh works tirelessly in his role as Foundation Director keeping us up to date
on the best ways to take advantage of the funds available and the best
ways to use those funds. Thank you Hugh for helping to ensure our club has a
high profile with Foundation.
Mike Bermann – International.
Mike has again excelled himself in identifying and organising our interna-
tional programs this year, from co-ordinating the final requirements for our In-
terplast Team to Laos including encouraging Kimberley to go as the Rotarian
observer and the Prem Milk Bank project to putting in motion the Water Wells
Project in Timor L’Este and encouraging Kashinee with her idea of sponsoring
a child through PLAN.

PRESIDENTS REPORT CONT.......
Dianne Reed – Membership.
Dianne came up with a few new ideas to increase awareness of Rotary, and particularly Ascot Rotary, in the
community by running an ad in the local community papers. Hopefully I can continue building our profile next
year. Thanks Dianne.
Aidan Wood - New Generations.
Aidan has done a tremendous job in keeping Ascot involved with all the programs associated with this role. We
had participants in RYPEN and RYLA this year and Hannah and Emma our two JCLA students attended
Handicamp as buddies. Aidan has also worked tirelessly to keep contact with our Interact Club, which was not
an easy task as the co-ordinator from Ursula Frayne left the school at the end of the school year and it took a full
semester for a replacement to be appointed. On top of this Aidan took on the role of mentor to Hannah, through
JCLA. Thank you Aidan, you did a wonderful job.
Ros McLernon – Vocational.
Ros started off the year with the intention of raising funds so she chose to produce and sell Christmas Hampers.
Ros and her team were very successful in both the number of hampers sold and in sourcing the goods to make
up the hampers as much as possible from donations, thereby increasing the profits that were made. The
barbecue put on by Ros and Gerry after the hampers were put together was a fantastic opportunity to enjoy
getting to know fellow members and their partners in a relaxed and social way; Thank you Ros and Gerry.
Joanna Kendall, as usual, has done a great job in administering the Arthur Bray Fund and the Charitable Trust
Account, thank you, and thanks go to Max Morrell in his efforts to assist the Board in dealing with the solicitor in
regards to the changes to the Arthur Bray Foundation trust deeds. The changes made have broadened the
scope of the trust whilst not encroaching on the original intent of the trust.
Other important roles in the club were:
Treasurer – Julia Temby. This was Julia’s 2nd year in the role and much appreciated, Julia also took on the role of
Attendance Officer and reporting our stats to district;
Bulletin Editor- Kimberley Holding; who used her creative skills to provide us with an informative and entertaining
weekly edition of what was happening at our club and keeping us up to date with district news too.
Sarge – Garry Jacobs. Thank you for your entertaining fines sessions collecting enough funds each week to
enable us to allocate approx. $50 per month to help educate a child through PLAN.
Secretary – Ron Alexander. Ron, I thank you for all your hard work as secretary for the 2nd year in a row.
Keeping an accurate record of our board meetings and disseminating the weekly information from district is a
huge undertaking, which you performed so well.
SERGEANT’S SESSION
• Art Reed - someone managed to lock themselves out of the house and was
unable to pick up Di, thereby forcing her to catach public tranpsport
• Kimberley Holding - for having high tech camping equipment at RYPEN last
weekend (baseball cap with torch inbuilt)
• Gren Courtland/Brian Poole/Brian Webster/ Max Morrell - Sarge thinks you all went to
the same Op Shop to get your shirts
• Kashinee Veeren - as Mike Bermann has the Key Award, Sarge decided you would pay his fines,
unlucky!

PRESIDENTS REPORT CONT.......
This year we continued with mentoring through the John Curtin Leadership Academy. We had Aidan
Wood mentoring Hannah Jackson, Ronnie Malthouse mentoring Emma McCormack and our
latest Max Morrell mentoring James Gosling. Congratulations to all on a job well done. Whilst neither
Hannah nor Emma have become members it is pleasing to note that Emma has joined South Perth
Rotaract Club and I think we should continue our involvement with the academy and look forward
to our next student.
One other momentous occasion this year would have been to celebrate our 2nd 50 year Rotarian –
Duggan Anderson as we did for Norm Bell last year. Unfortunately we have had to put our
celebrations on hold until Duggan is well enough. We wish you a speedy recovery Duggan and look
forward to celebrating with you in the not too distant future.
I’m pleased to report that our business card project continues to grow both at home and overseas
and we are now receiving repeat orders from happy Rotarians and clubs, A huge thanks must go
to Kimberley who runs the business end of the project and Hugh who is the go between with Rotary
International Licensing. A sterling job by both of you and also to Julia for ‘keeping the books’. The
profits from this project are allocated towards our US$100 per member commitment to Foundation
for our annual giving.
We have continued our clubs aim to have 100% club members become Centurions through
personal giving and it was very pleasing to see how close we came. The $2 per week personal
contribution towards this program continued this year and thank you to all who dug a little deeper
to make up your personal difference between what was collected and the US$100 requirement to
make the full donation to this worthwhile program.
Another aim for my year was to update our basic web page, which had been created to facilitate
our on-line business card project. I elicited the help of Kimberley Holding and Deepti Roopun and
together they have done a marvellous job. I believe we just need to include lots of photos on our
projects page before going live. Kim and Dee can then update the web page as required with new
and proposed projects,
In addition to the Web Page, we created a Facebook page which is maintained by Kimberley and
me as administrators. We have used this successfully to advertise events throughout the year as well
as our current water Wells Project in Timor L’este. Kimberley has been sharing our weekly newsletter
on the Facebook Page so Ascot Rotary is now modernised!
Finally I would like to thank the club members for giving me the opportunity to lead such a great
club and also for providing the support when I needed it.
Thank you

ASCOT ROTARY SHIRTS
We’ve been discussing the purchase of new Ascot Rotary shirts.
Below are some colour options that we have available.
Remember that we will be placing the Ascot Logo on the front left hand side (with the possible option of having
your name embroidered on the front right hand side)
Also, Kimberley was thinking about placing a slogan or similar on the back of the shirt (so as not to waste
space)... suggestions welcome!
