AvePoint Platform Overview

Notas do Editor

  1. AvePoint: Who We AreWe were founded in 2001, coinciding with the first release of SharePoint; we are first and oldest vendor in the SharePoint space and our products support all versions of SharePoint from 2001 to 2003, 2007, and of course the newly release 2010.We were founded and currently Headquartered in NJ, with the majority of our executive, sales, marketing, support and development teams based there. We have global offices in major hub cities around the world providing localized sales and technical support to our customers, with recent expansion here into Canada. We now have a Canadian HQ here in Ottawa with a full Canadian sales, support, and engineering staff. We also have remote personnel on the ground based in Toronto and Vancouver that we can deploy to better serve our clients in those regions on a timely fashion. Our development team based in the US consists of over 500 engineers that are all full-time AvePoint employees, which makes us the largest SharePoint dedicated development force outside of Microsoft. Since we do not outsource our development, we are able to keep a unified message and ensure that our extensive collection of SharePoint tools work well with each other and are all based off of the same platform. This also allows us to keep our competitive advantage and offer the most cutting edge and highest number of applications designed specifically for SharePoint of any vendor out there. Some of our applications are also available through our OEM channels with IBM and NetApp. Our SharePoint backup applications are available through IBM as the TSM for SharePoint product, and through NetApp as the SnapManager for MOSS(SMMOSS) product. We are a depth-managed Gold certified partner with Microsoft, standing in the top 1% of Microsoft’s partners worldwide. We have dedicated Microsoft sales, marketing, and technical resources that we can utilize to better serve SharePoint customers. We are also their partner of choice when it comes to demonstrating software the Microsoft Technology Centers as well as on competitive engagements when SharePoint is up against Lotus Notes. And lastly, we are a Technology Adoption Program partner, which allows us access to early alpha and beta codes of new generation software, and in turn that allows us to give our customers the commitment that all of our software will support future versions of SharePoint on it’s day of release, just as we released our support for SharePoint 2010 this past May.
  2. Circle SlideThis slide briefly goes over a little bit of what we do for SharePoint --managing the lifecycle of your entire SP environment from its inception to its growth, to day-to-day management of it, and eventually when you grow out of that, we’ll help you re-architect again.Architect - Typically we are engaged by customers in the early deployments stages when they are just beginning to architect their SP environment -- people come to us for best practices in terms of what size the architecture should be for their farms, recommendations on the number of servers, how many farms, and specifically which components to put where. We can usually give our best recommendations here because of what we have seen and what we have experienced over thousands of customer deployments. Some of the solutions we can provide in terms of architecting is the ability to do full replication of farms across multiple geographical locations so it can support a multi-farm architecture—as well as help with deploying changes from dev and QA for that first time as you roll customizations and templates into production.Manage - As time draws on, we see our customers’ concerns evolve from an architecting phase into a day-to-day management phase. Within the day-to-day management, anything that you have architected—not only from an architecture perspective---but also from a governance policy perspective, you will now need a tool to manage and enforce on a daily basis. This is where our solutions come in, we can help in terms of making sure that all of your users are given the right permissions and access to the right locations, making sure that the SP structure is in lines with MSFT best practices and governance policies, and that illegal/prohibited data is blocked from being uploaded into SP. We provide you with the tools to ensure that you are on top of your SP environment on a day to day management basis so that you are aware of what is happening at all times.Growth - Growth really goes hand-in-hand with fine SP management; the more organized and accessible your SharePoint environment is, the more user adoption you will have, and naturally as user adoption grows, so will the amount of data. Growth of course comes with its own pains, as your environment grows, you will start seeing users and data being mis-placed in different locations, you might also see your environment grow beyond the limits of your initially planned architecture and even pushing MSFT best practice recommendations. Our solutions here will help with making sure that when growth does happen, it’s happening in the right stages, the right places, as well as the right rate. Beyond this you might need to re-architect again. That’s why in this circle you see that there is really no beginning and no end.Governance & Compliance - A lot of times people may come to us with the architecture and the policies already set in place, but do not necessarily have the tools to help them enforce those policies—and that’s where we come in.Or, customers may come already the architecture and the policies in place, and even have tools to help them enforce those policies, but now they’re outgrowing them—either from a user base or usage base. Or even from a data perspective,--just literally growing out of those policies, which means they may need more robust tools to handle the unanticipated growth or we can help with re-architecting and better planning to accommodate the growth. So, as you can see, as SharePoint continues in this perpetual cycle of architecture, management, and growth, governance and compliance overshadows everything from an all encompassing perspective.
  3. Architecting SharePoint DeploymentsBreaking down the Architecting phase, some of the tools we offer here are designed to help you test, plan, and create that initial production environment, as well as helping you move content and deploy customizations and templates from development to QA to production farms. So, we’re talking about our test environment creator tools, our usage simulator tools, administrator, archiver, extender tools—again, a lot of which comes from helping you architect from a server structure perspective, and from a policy perspective as well. We can also help you configure and deploy once you have that server architecture in place and SharePoint is up and running. We’re talking about making the changes in terms of configurations in central administration, on individual and across site collections and sites—even down to folders and items. And then deploying any customizations you may have—whether you’re deploying from your development farm where you have a team of developers writing those customizations, or you’re purchasing 3rd party solutions that will be installed and tested on those dev farms that we can help you push into production. As these things come into shape, and as your server architecture and your farm architecture comes into shape, the next thing you want to figure out is how you will be managing your SP environment.
  4. Managing SharePoint EnvironmentsThe first thing that we talk about when we talk about management is how to protect your data in SharePoint. You can’t manage what you can’t protect. You must make sure that anything you have architected in your SharePoint environment—or deployed from your dev into your production – is well protected. If you experience data loss, if you have customization loss, the first thing you’re going to see is your user adoption of SharePoint drop, because people won’t put mission critical data on a SharePoint environment they don’t trust. To ensure proper management in terms of protection we give you backup and recovery solutions that will protect anything from an entire farm, down to site collections, even down to items and item versions. From a high availability perspective, we can help you replicate to a second DR location so when the primary goes down you can failover to a standby environment in minutes. We also protect it by scanning what people are uploading into your SharePoint environment and preventing illegal content from being uploaded. We can weed out things like social security numbers, credit card numbers, or even profanity. We can protect it from viruses—if users are uploading documents or items from computers without an anti-virus, you’re still covered through our solutions. In terms of day-to-day management and administering, we’re talking about the ability to manage across multiple farms, multiple web apps, site collections, even down to sites and folders. We’re talking about managing securities and permissions of users. In addition to that, we also provide reporting capabilities as we firmly believe that you can’t manage something that you can’t predict or monitor. From that aspect we give you the ability to monitor and report on things like usage, report architecture, report configurations, even auditing the actions that people are performing within your SharePoint environment. So you know exactly who’s doing what at what time, and what they are doing to different locations and files; By knowing the usage patterns we can help you better administer your SharePoint environment, for example—backing up data that you use more often. Without knowing which site collections, sites, folders or files people are using more often, you will not know which are more important to your organization; therefore you will not know which ones to protect above others. So this is the area that we come in with our tools to really help you manage your day-to-day environment.
  5. Scaling SharePoint InfrastructureAnd of course, all of that architecting, all of that management really serves to help you build user adoption of your SharePoint environment. That is our goal and hopefully your goal as well when it comes to encouraging more and more people to use your SharePoint environment to truly realize the value SharePoint brings to your organization. As your SharePoint adoption grows, there is no doubt that your database is going to grow. This is where we can help you optimize performance as it grows—taking out data that you don’t necessarily use anymore. Not only can we run reports to determine from a protection aspect, but running reports to tell you what data is being used more often than other data, so that the less used data can actually be offloaded off your SQL environment to help you optimize performance without necessarily jumping back into re-architecting just yet.The first thing a lot of our customers think about is “Now I have more users, I have more data—lets jump straight back into re-architecting it and add another server, or increase SQL storage.” We feel that there is one more barrier before that where we can optimize your performance with other things rather than just adding another WFE or another SQL server. Part of that is offloading data that people don’t use to a standard file system environment for cheaper storage. We’re also letting you scale out in terms of growth to other farms—so again, this where we come in with solutions that take advantage of your initial architecture of multiple farms(if you have it); being able to offload content in one farm and having other content in another farm. Both farms can be accessed locally, but only some content needs to be synchronized, so you don’t have to have two giant SharePoint farms if part of the data is not going to be used in multiple locations. We can also integrate additional data stores. As your organization grows, no doubt other locations outside of your SharePoint environment will grow. We can integrate data from those external storages into SharePoint—either by moving data in as you absorb legacy systems into SharePoint, or if you want to continuously bring communication between SharePoint and your other data stores, we’re able to connect those to SharePoint to make sure that everybody has the same access, and of course, doing it all without growing and impacting the performance of your SQL database.
  6. Red Platform SlideTo help you address all of the areas and pain points we just covered, you may have seen some of our solutions’ names pop up on the previous slides already, but here’s a complete overview of our platform of solutions for SharePoint.Data Protection SuiteFrom a data protection aspect — we can back up and restore anything from an entire farm down to a single item, even a single version of a document; we can also do a full farm replication and high availability to a standby DR farm. With our site bin, you’re able to undelete content at the site collection and site level — a very good tool especially if you have a large environment where permissions are given out to multiple site collection and site owners where they would have the ability to delete sites. This will hopefully help eliminate a lot of support calls for you and your team.AdministrationFor the day-to-day administration tasks that we just talked about is the Administrator tool —letting you make changes on multiple configurations in multiple locations, and making changes to permissions across multiple users across multiple site collections. With our replicator solution we can replicate selective content across multiple farms or web apps to support that multi- production farm or multi-web app environment. We can also help with restructuring and moving content; promoting or demoting sites from a content management perspective with our content manager.Deploying customizations from dev into production—whether it’s 3rd party customizations or customized code from your developers can be easily streamlined with our deployment manager solution. Our SharePoint antivirus and content shield solutions will be scanning all user uploads, where viruses and illegal content will be checked at the door without it ever being inserted into your SharePoint environment.ComplianceThat brings us into compliance where we will audit the data so that you can have an exact copy of anything that you would deem as a record for compliance, which can be called up at your convenience l when you do need it in terms of a legal discovery or financial audit. In addition to that, all the actions performed on those documents will be provided to you as well. So not only are you going to have file A, you’re going to have file A and every action that’s ever executed on file A since the moment it was uploaded into SharePoint (e.g. people checking it in, checking it out, viewing it, editing it, even being deleted or restored from a recycle bin, or deleted again from a recycle bin). MigrationAs SharePoint becomes more of a dominant force in your organization one of the solutions we offer to support its cause is migration. Data left on legacy systems such as eRoom, notes, stellent, vignette can be migrated into your SharePoint environment. Our migration solutions will help ease the transition by maintaining the original meta data (like author, last modified user, created time, and last modified time) in SharePoint as well as provide mapping options for users and permissions across platforms and domains. Or if you choose not to migrate and purely throw the data into SharePoint, we can connect existing file storage to SharePoint from a storage optimization perspective. Storage Optimization Our storage optimization tools allows you to connect files on file system storage to SharePoint, archive old/unused files outside of SharePoint to accommodate growth, or extend blob files to be stored outside of the SQL database. The goal with our tools here are really to minimize SQL storage and therefore minimize impact on performance when databases grow due to increased user adoption. Report CenterLastly, to tie all of our solutions together is our report center tool that allows you to monitor everything you’re doing within your SharePoint environment, so you can see what locations people are hitting, what people are searching for, how much storage you’re actually using, as well as prediction trends in terms of storage so you can anticipate how much storage you’re going to need in the future to help you plan procurement processes properly. The same tool will also track and report all processes and jobs run within our own solutions platform to give you an idea of how much resources and storage our software is consuming, with prediction trends as well to help with future planning.
  7. We currently have over 5,000 customers worldwide and here’s a slice of our Canadian customers. As you can see our solutions are being deployed across industry verticals and geographic locations, where ever SharePoint is, we will be there to support it.
