I want to start this presentation with going through a typical usage scenario of my final concept, so I want to
introduce you to Fritz.

3. He just started to work as a voluntary caretaker in a Special Protection Area in Germany. Even though not all
SPA‘s have cartakers yet, there is already a big network.
Quick Reminder: Special Protection Areas (SPA) are nature conservation sites according to the EU‘s bird‘s
directive. There are 737 of them in Germany.

He worked as a hydrologist, so he knows quite a lot about waters like rivers, lakes and ponds - but not so much
about birds.

5. But that‘s not so bad, because he can obtain all information he needs from the caretaker-network‘s online
platform.

As he classified his notes before, they are already imported in the right sections of the report, but he can still edit
and add things if he wants to...

40. As soon as his report was logged, Fritz gets a notification that his contribution was acknowledged.

So far the final concept, it‘s not 100% done and flawless, but i hope you got the point even though the
wireframes were German...
I want to tell a bit more about the process that led to the results...

42. I already had quite a few ideas when i started brainstorming, so i visualized them and added some new ones...
In the end I had around 40 small ideas...

I created an evaluation matrix, using the most important aspects for my target group and adding „feasibility“
because I wanted to have a dimension that depicts when different ideas are possible to implement...

44. I mapped all my ideas using the knowledge vs. commitment matrix to see which ideas would fit which segment of
my target group
and I grouped all ideas in four „themes“..

which were „Network“ , „Information Retrieval“ , „Monitoring“ and Report.
For the final solution, all of them needed to be tackled for sure, so I wanted to know one last time what the users
say about them...

46. I collected feedback from 8 German caretakers and let them rate five groups of ideas on five different aspects...
The result pretty much tied into the outcome from my own rating system, which was not a surprise but good to
know...
More interesting were some of the comments I received:

At first, I was a bit shocked, but then I realized that this is the best feedback you can get - because it tells that
the ideas he talked about are the essential ones and definitely needed ....

48. After the evaluation I started with sketching wireframes and doing paper prototypes to come up with a general
interaction flow and to give a home to all the features.

49. And I did some testing with a digital mock-up to see if it works fine...

For example, it is not needed to do an annual report with the mobile app...

I personally think it is definitely possible to implement the printout toolbox in version 1, but that depends a lot
on the budget and who is developing it...
For the UAV‘s it is very hard to predict when they could be implemented: There are no technical issues, but legal
ones, and especially in germany people are VERY sensitive to things like that, so, we will see!

I also need to decide with my partner which features are going to be implemented in the first version, but that‘s
something happening after my graduation...
