NEW TECHNOLOGIES & SONY
MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT
HOW HAVE NEW TEHCNOLOGIES AFFECTED…
Productions: New programs and recording equipment
have helped to record songs and edit them to
maximize the sound quality with ease. New equipment
has also helped to upload songs onto different media
platforms. For example, Sony use their new
microphones, editing programs and other recording
software.
Distribution: Advertising and promotion of new
songs/artists is much easier and quicker with the help
of social media and newer technologies. For example
Youtube, Facebook, Google and Vevo – which is part
owned by Sony (an example of a synergy).
Consumption: The public can now download songs
instantly to their phones and computers from iTunes
and other online sources. Also, songs are accessible
from online websites to view/listen. For example
around 300,000 copies of Adele’s ‘Skyfall’ (an artist
signed by Sony ME) was sold on iTunes.
Exchange: before the internet, you had to go into a
shop and buy CD’s with real money, you can now
enter your bank account details into a website and
pay for the songs with virtual money, like on iTunes
where a customer can use vouchers or credit cards.
