2. What is Ice Damming?
Ice damming is caused when ice accumulates on your
roof’s eaves. In simple words, a dam is created with
this ice which causes drain blockage, thus preventing
water from flowing properly.
This blockage causes leaks in the roof because the
water gets collected in a place causing moisture in the
roof. They affect the shingles and even your attic if not
attended in time. In the next slides you will know
more about the causes, solutions and what damages
are caused due to ice damming.

3. Causes of Ice Damming
An improper ventilation causes and an inadequate
attic floor insulation are the major causes behind ice
damming. Once the ice has accumulated on the roof, it
melts into water due to the heat coming from the
floor. This water starts flowing towards the colder
eaves area, it freezes again and creates a barrier i.e. an
ice dam. Normally, this occurs after moderate or heavy
snowfall and later when the temperature rises a bit in
the afternoon followed by re-freezing at night.
