CRIME PREVENTION
What is a Crime?
• A crime is the commission or
omission by a person having capacity
of any act, which is either prohibited
or compelled by law.
- Gregorio(1988)
What is
Crime prevention is an act
to be done in order that a crime
would not happen.
How can we minimize Crime?
it is through Crime Prevention that we
can lessen the crimes in our society.
Take note of the following
preventive measurements:
• Community Involvement:
1. Conscious collective effort to maintain
peace and order n the neighborhood is far
more effective than self or family oriented
approach to crime prevention.
2. Good leadership and active participation of
community members are vital.
3. Regular crime prevention meetings should
be held to discuss the most common modus
operandi of criminals and thieves, and the
countermeasures against them.
4. Resident volunteers, in groups of two or
three, can walk the streets in designated areas
at specific hours.
5. When a crime is in progress, volunteers
should call “117”.
6. A witness to an ongoing crime can alert
neighbors by making noise or giving
prearranged signals.
7. If the Ronda group is small, only the
leader of the volunteers should know the
time and area of the neighborhood walk.
1. Make sure you and your family know
the general whereabouts of all members
for the day. If possible create a schedule
board on the kitchen where family
members can post their schedules and
destinations.
2. Instruct all the members not to
entertain strangers on the gate or on the
phone. Children should be especially
trained not to converse with strangers on
the phone. Transactions must be cone
OUTSIDE the gate. This will prevent
observation of your premises and
household layout.
3. Teach your family and household help
to verify the identity of phone callers
before the identity of themselves.
4. NEVER give out information on the
whereabouts of family members to just
anyone on the phone. Call the police
assistance if you repeatedly received
anonymous phone calls.
5. A designated family member should be
contacted in an emergency or if there are
dubious characters at your door, phone. Put
important numbers in a place where you can
have easy access.
6. Be aware of phone swindlers that states
that a family member has an accident and
asks for cash and other valuables. Verify the
family member first.
7. Household applicants should be asked
for clearance and ID pictures. It would be
better if they’re are recommended by a
family member or friend.
1. Advice children to refrain from
playing/loitring in the roads outside your
residence where they are highly vulnerable to
abduction. Tell them also not to leave the
house without telling you their destination
and estimated arrival time.
2. Carefully “back-check” reference of anyone
who intend to employ at your household.
3. Hiring a security guard for the street will
greatly improve the security situation of
your residence.
4. Teach your children not to talk to
strangers.
5. Askthe children’s school to help provide
security by not giving personal information
on the children to anybody.
6. Insist to the persons authorized to pick
up your children (service, yaya etc) your
strict guidelines to ensure their safety.
7. Instruct the children how to call in “117”
when strangers or suspicious persons hang
around the house.
8. At night, keep the children’s room
open so that unusual noise might be
heard.
9. Keep the house well-lightened when
leaving the children at home.
Pointers for Children:
1. Don’t accept invitations or gifts from
strangers.
2. Go straight home after classes.
3. Report suspicious persons around the school
or house to someone in authority.
4. Make sure you are with someone when you
watch a movie.
5. Inform your parents about your whereabouts
and whom you are with.
6. Be wary of drugpushers. Report them
immediately to authority.
7. Always attend parties in GROUPS.
8. Hard drinks and drugs poison body and mind.

leaving dormitory/boarding houses.

numbers after purchase.
• As much as possible, bring your
cellphone only when you urgently
need it.
• Always put your cellphone where it is
not visible.
• Always walk in well-lighted places.
• Keep the bag containing your
cellphone close to your body.
• Refrain using your cellphone in
public places.
• Never lend your phone to
strangers.
• Do not resist hold-up men or
snatchers. Don’t panic.
• Do not leave your cellphones lying
in a table, over a cabinet in public
places.
• When going to groceries, don’t
leave your cellphone on the
baggage counter. Bring it with you.
What to do if your under threat.
1. If there are suspicious sounds or shadows in your home,
try to contact police quietly, so they will not know that
you are aware of their presence.
2. If you are awakened by the intruders, you have several
options. One, lie quietly to avoid attracting attention,
hoping they will leave you undisturbed. Two, you may
choose to open lights and make noise by moving
around, thereby alarming them that you are awake, and
scaring them to leave your home. If you are alone, you
can speak loudly to an imaginary companion.
3 If the crime has been done when you arrived, don’t
attempt to enter, because they may still be inside, go
to your nearest neighbor and call police.
4., Remain calm.
5. Note all the pecularities and mannerisms of the
robbers if you come face-to-face to them. Tattoo
marks, speech, moles, etc. This will help the police to
find them.
6. Call police immediately.
How to avoid
RAPE.
1. Be alert when you’re alone.
2. Avoid walking alone.
3. Stay out of vacant lots and buildings.
4. Avoid shortcuts.
5. Be discreet.
6. Carry a shrill whistle.
7. If someone is following you, walk in streets with
many people and bright streetlights.
8. Don’t accept rides from strangers.
9. When arriving home by taxi or private car, request
to the driver to wait until you got inside.
How to save lives.
Love your neighbor as you love your self. – is one
of the commandments of God in the New
Testament. We can do this by saving lives of people
by calling or texting 117 during emergencies, such
as:
• Crimes
• Accidents
• Fires
• Disaster
• Road traffic hazards
• Other safety concerns.
What is 117?
It is the number to call when one needs a police,
fire or medical, emergency situation.
It is the universal emergency number for the
Philippines.
This should be only used in EMERGENCIES.
In every emergency, Don’t panic.
