My wife stays home with the kids. I make $70k, plus a 10% annual bonus, plus have an annuity paid monthly in the amount of $750 for 2 more years. I'll get a check for $50k in 2 years. I'm considering the purchase of a new home. I live in Tennessee. When we sell our house, I should walk about with about $90,000 (after commission, closing costs, etc). I'm looking at purchasing a home priced at $300,000. I have an emergency fund of $10k. Plan to put $10k from the equity of our home sale into the emergency fund for extra cushion. My wife will return to work in about a year and a half and bring home $40k per year. I have about $120k in retirement. I have 1 car payment with a balance of $10k. No other debt. Am I making a good decision on the purchase of this home? I worry about a $300 purchase, so a $300k purchase has me stressing! =) Investment wise, I think the house has great room for growth. It's a home we could stay in for quite some time. Thoughts on where I stand overall financially? Thanks!
