2. To understand what Britain’s climate is like. WALT WILF All: to be able to describe Britain’s climate and interpret a climate graph. Most: To be able to give reasons for Britain’s temperate climate. Some: To be able to give detailed explanations for Britain’s climate.
3. WILF 4) Give detailed explanations for Britain’s climate. 3) Give reasons for Britain’s temperate climate. 2) Interpret a climate graph. 1) Describe Britain’s climate.
5. Climate graphs These are a combination of a bar graph and a line graph. Temperature is shown on a line graph, with the figures being shown on the right side of the graph. Rainfall is shown by a bar graph, with the figures being shown down the left side of the graph. Britain’s Climate Temperature Rainfall
7. Level 7 Model Answer: The British Isles have cool summers and mild winters. The temperature ranges from about 5 degrees celsius in the winter to 18 degrees celsius in the summer. The range in temperature is 13 degrees celsius. It rains all year round with generally higher rainfall in the winter. The lowest rainfall is in the spring. The total annual rainfall is approximately 900mm.
8. Look for patterns in the temperature data Ask yourself the following: Is the temperature the same all year round? If it is different, how many seasons does the location experience? Which season is the warmest? Is it warm (10 to 20°C), hot (20 to 30°C) or very hot (30°C)? Which season is the coolest? Is it mild (0 to 10°C), cold (-10 to 0°C) or very cold (below -10°C)? What is the range of temperature? (Subtract the minimum temperature from the maximum temperature). Look for patterns in the rainfall data Ask yourself the following: Does the rainfall occur all year round? What is the pattern of the rainfall? Check which season (s) is/are drier or wetter than others. What is the total annual rainfall? Add each month's total together to get the annual total. Then put the rainfall and temperature information together - what does it tell you about this place? Prompts which will help you to give a detailed description
