3. In the never-ending search for a
greater fuel to power the world’s
rockets and get our species into
the unknown of the universe our
team believes to have chosen
one that is the master propellant.

4. There are a few different propellants that
we have narrowed our choices down in
our search…

5. The first is a hydrogen-oxygen reaction

6.  The
second is a rare chemical
(H2NN(CH3)2) that reacts with Dinitrogen
tetroxide (another chemical – N2O4)
 H2NN(CH3)2 + N2O4  N2 + 2CO2 + 4H2O

7.  The
third is Dodecane, a chemical that
reacts with oxygen
 C12H26 + (37/2)O2  12CO2 + 13H2O

8.  The
final option was an ethanol-oxygen
reaction
 C2H5OH + 3O2  2CO2 + 3H2O

9. Now, I know that you are wondering
which one exactly it is that we have
concluded as the one rocket-engine fuel
that would be the best choice…

10. Our team of specialists has determined
that the first fuel would be the best
choice.

reaction

ΔH=-241.8kJ/mol

14. Why is this the best choice for the best
propellant?

15.  The
hydrogen oxygen reaction releases
water (H2O) as the product. Water is
clean and has no effect on the
environment. It is a clean by-product. No
greenhouse gases are released in this
reaction. This by-product is the only
chemical released by the reaction.

16.  It
takes a very small amount of Hydrogen
gas and Oxygen gas to release a
powerful amount of energy.

17.  So
there it is, our choice for the best fuel
to propel a rocket is Hydrogen, when it
reacts with oxygen.
