2. *Remember, a DIRECT OBJECT is a person or
thing that is receiving the action of the verb in a
sentence (answers the question who? or
what?)
The following are DOPs:

2. Any negative expression (no or
nunca) are placed before the DOP
3. Lo, la, los, las can refer to either
people or objects

• No la veo. I do not see her (Ana).
I do not see it (biblioteca).
• Nunca lo visito. I never visit him (Pedro).
I never visit it (el parque).

• Llamas a Ana. ____ llamas.
• Vemos al profesor. ____ vemos.
• Quiero a mis padres. ____ quiero.
• Veo a las chicas. ____ veo.
• Ves la tienda. ____ ves.

• My mom loves me. Mi madre me quiere.
• I call you everyday. Te llamo todos los días.

7. DOPs can be added on to an infinitive.
• Voy a llamarte luego. I am going to call you
later.
• Te voy a llamar luego.
• Ella va a visitarte. Ella te va a visitar.

8. Avoiding interference with English
• Lo and la mean it only when it functions as a
direct object of the verb
• When it is the subject of a sentence, the Spanish
subject pronoun is omitted.
• ¿Lo ves? Do you see it?
• No, no lo veo. No, I don’t see it.
BUT
• No está aquí. It is not here.
• Es bonito. It is pretty.
