2. In what ways does my magazine use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media products?
I also got the
person on the front
cover to were
The first example my magazine uses conventions from real media products is colours specific to
the unique typography of my mast head. I used the rezland font which gave the the house style of
magazine a individual identity that is instantly recognizable. The second way I my magazine such
use real life conventions is using a central image as part of the main cover line as white and black.
and putting feature cover lines on the left or right side of the image showing This is used in
that they are not the central point of the magazines. Example of these things other magazines
can be seen on vibe magazine which uses these conventions, these particular such as NME and
magazines are ones I took inspiration from for this. As well as these things I vibe.
have used tag lines to attract the reader attention as well as a pug which does
a similar thing as to catch the readers eye.
The second example is on the contents page. Here I use a central image which
is the main focus of the magazine. Which is used in magazines such as this. I
give a message from the editor which gives the reader of the magazine a
better connection to the magazine if they know the editor is speaking directly
to them.
The final examples are on the double page spreads. For the double page spread I
used almost the whole of the left page to use a image that focuses purely on the
artist. A example of this in real life media would be in vibe magazine here.
I also used 3 columns for the text which is the usual convention for music
magazines.
3. Who is your target audience, how do you represent
them and how do you address or attract them?
My target audience is people aged 16-24, more likely to be male as hip-hop tends to be favoured by
men rather than women. This is partly because of how it is a male dominated genre. This therefore is
why I have used a male artist as the main feature of my magazine as it will appeal best to the male
target audience, this is one way I have attracted my target audience. My magazine is representing my
target audience through the use of informal language and a artist who is wearing the cloths of a
urban style which is were a large amount of hip-hop fans of from, as it tends to be more popular in
urban and city areas. The magazine is also made to look modern with the use of bold and informal
text, for example in the masthead which has its own unique typography. I also try to attract audience
with the use of only small sections to read to make it quick and easy instead of it becoming boring to
try and see the features of the magazine.
4. What type of media institution would distribute
your magazine?
I would use ipc media as my physical distributer. This is because they are a well known UK
distribution company that has a good reputation, as it distributes the Uks best and most well known
magazines such as NME. However I would not just distribute physically I would also use digital
distribution. This is because my target audience is a younger generation that will be more
accustomed to using the internet and therefore will be more willing to use the internet. I would use
digital distribution in a order and delivery format, which would also be used for a subscription
service, and I would use digital distribution for a online edition of the magazine as well. Both attract
more of my target audience as it makes it easier and simpler to buy the magazine. As well as this
online advertising could be used as my young target audience are likely to spend more time on the
internet so will more likely see adverting on the internet rather than through any other kind of
internet.
5. What have I learnt from the prelim task to the final
product and what technology's have I used?
First of all I have learnt how important it is to give your magazine a
unique typography for its masthead to give it individuality and make it
stand out from other magazines' did this by downloading a text type
from ‘dafont.com’. Secondly I have been able to develop my skills on
Photoshop and publisher, for example by learning how to use new tools
such as the spot heal tool which I used in my final product. As well as this
I learned how to separate layers in publisher and convert them on to
publisher, which I did not use in my prelim but I did in my final product. I
have also learned from my research that articles such as feature pages
like double page spreads, should use 3 columns for text as it is a usual
convention of the magazines I have researched such as vibe magazine.
The page can be split in this way by gridding the page on publisher so
these columns can be accurately set out, this is therefore another way I
have used technology to make my magazine and is also something I did
not use on my prelim, but which I did on the final product.
