RESOURCES TO MODEL HISTORICAL INQUIRY
Abstract review
Many authors and illustrators incorporate primary and
secondary resources in their texts to present an authentic

context that validates the events as they unfold. This
presentation identifies just a few examples that can be used to
model the processes of historical interpretation, inquiry and
reporting. Extensions of texts into film and interactive web sites
provides further opportunities to engage students in inquiry
processes as they explore artefacts and build understanding.
User level: Years 5 and 6
History: The Australian Colonies & Australia as a Nation
Using children’s literature to model historical inquiry and
report writing.
