2. Highlights of learning from
Professional Inquiry One.
From class I have learnt about the
importance and value of early childhood
education and professionalism. I have
learnt about the important of play and
the children being able to have
appropriate resources. I have learnt
about the different teaching techniques
that are used in early childhood teaching.
Along with all of this I have learnt about
the different cultures from other
students in the class and about
ePortfolio’s and blogs. From class we
have been able to work in team to
develop teamwork and from this been
able to learn from each other.
3. During my Two Week home practicum, I was able to
develop a better relationship with the children with in
the centre and got to know about the children’s
interest. This has helped me with being about to
facilitate better learning environments for the
children.
While on my Practicum I learnt from my Visiting
Lecturer about the importance of getting down to the
children’s level when communicating with them and I
was given some areas of growth for my development
as a Teacher. These are to use more Te Reo Maori and
strategies to implement this. One of my goals was to
implement a mat time, which I successfully
completed while on practicum so another area of
growth was to continue to do mat times.
During my time in the centre, I was able to learn more
about the teacher’s role in centre. I also learnt about
the different relationships like teachers: child
relationships, teacher: teacher relationships, and
teacher: family relationships. I was also about to learn
more about the general operations of the centre and
the policies and procedures. I learnt about the value
of early childhood education for the families in the
centre. I also learnt more about the value of play for
the children and what they got out of play while they
were in the centre.
4. My Highlight from the centre was the Art
Activities that have happened throughout the
centre. I enjoyed facilitating these experiences
as well as join in on the learning experiences.
“Children experience an environment where
their play is valued as meaningful learning and
the importance of spontaneous play is
recognised” (Ministry of Education, 1996, p.84)
“Children experience an environment where
they discover and develop different ways to be
creative and expressive” (Ministry of
Education, 1996, p.80)
From the art activities the children are about
to experience an environment where they are
able to be creative and expressive of their own
emotions and feelings. I believe this part of
play is very meaningful learning and also be a
spontaneous throughout the day depending on
what they children would like to do.
