didn't have a voice. And try to find some
of those stories that go unreported.” “I
was there in the first place because I
thought I could make a difference” Source

Career Path
4. Giles is a modern photojournalist; the
state of photojournalism was well off
during his time of work. Also with the
stress at an all-time high being one of the
many photojournalists covering the war in
Afghanistan.

Era
5. Giles has two main things that motivate
him to continue to be a Photojournalist.
The first is to give the people a voice who
can not speak for themselves. He works
mostly in Afghanistan in conflict areas
where women and children have no say.
The other motivation for him is the fact
that he lost both legs and his left arm
when he stepped on an IED. This life
threatening incident did not hold him
down, in fact it pushed him forward to
motivate him even more. (source)

Motivation
6. : he used all modern technology to
capture his photojournalistic images. With
being in Afghanistan I am sure that he
used wireless transmitters. Also with Giles
losing both legs and one of his arms I
could imagine he has special equipment
to make it easier on him. Also Giles was
given the use of modern Prosthetics to
able him to continue with every day life.

Technology
7. Giles comes between ethical
dilemmas on a daily basis while shooting
in conflict areas. He comes between when
you should help an individual. Most of the
time Giles photographs people who are
sick or severely injured.
one thing Giles dose to help
these people is that he is very involved
with charities. Mostly for those from
people who are affected by land minds
just like himself.

8. Giles has bias for those people who are
helpless and don’t have the right to speak

Bias
9. Giles focuses his photographic style
mostly on portraits of individuals who are
sick or injured. The majority of his photos
are in black and white, with a simple
white background and the subject faced in
the center looking forward. (source)

10. : Giles’ photos impacted the way we saw
the innocent by standards of the war. He
depicted quite often how people would be
at the wrong place at the wrong time and
end up getting life threatening injuries
from war efforts. He has also started his
own foundation that will help with
funding to be able to continue doing what
he is doing. (Duley Fund)

Achievements
15. Giles also did care work for a young adult
boy named Nick.” Nick lives in a world
parallel to ours; distanced by his Autism
and resulting depression. In his own
words, it's as if he lives trapped in the
cellar. Listening to the conversations of
those above; unable to join them, unable
to interact. Painfully aware of his own
isolation. Nick's a gentle and thoughtful
young man who finds self-harming to be
his only form of release. Hitting himself to
get 'the right feeling'.”-Giles Duley

Becoming the Story
16. “One of the hardest things with this whole
experience is that my story has in some ways
become bigger than my photography. Awards put
attention on you and that can be awkward,
especially if it’s an image of someone suffering.
How can you feel good getting praise for that?
However you also learn that the attention can also
help raise interest in the subject, if that happens,
it’s worth it.”-Giles Duley (source)
