4. Cyber Bullying
Cyber Bullying is the use of technology
to harass, embarrass, threaten or
humiliate another youth using
Facebook, twitter, my space, internet
chat rooms, cellphones etc.
5. Why people Cyber Bully.
Youths cyber bullying for many
reasons. They might be jealous of their
victim or they could just be bored.
Their are many queries as to why
people bully via the internet or
cellphone. But just because someone is
bored doesn’t mean they have the right
to bully someone else.
6. Cyber Bullying Laws
New Zealand Laws:
You can usually find the laws for social
networking sites under the terms and
conditions on that paticular website. On
Facebook it reads ‘You will not bully,
intimidate, or harass any user’. As far
as laws around cyber bullying go, the
one that can be used is Harassment Act
1997
7. Harassment Act 1997
Harassment Act 1997 allows someone
who is being harassed in any way (even
electronic means) to apply to the
District Court for a Restraining Order.
The act however doesn’t apply to
minors, so there isn’t really any direct
laws about cyber bullying as they apply
to young people.

Cyber Bullying does not have many
laws as some countries are either
unaware of the problem or some
countries think that it is not a big
enough issue to have laws against it. In
Toronto they have a new law in which
the student can be suspended or
expelled from school if they have been
the bully of a cyber bullying incident.

Bullying
Cyber Bullying has some major effects.
the effects are serious, such as;
Depression, Low Self-Esteem, Bad
Grades, Loneliness and can lead to as
serious as Suicide.

In New Zealand there are many help
lines in which you can call and they can
provide help. For example 0800
KIDSLINE, Whats up and 0508
NETSAFE. All of these lines are there to
provide support for any issues young
children have in New Zealand.

There are many statistics in the world
around the usage of the internet and
cyber bullying. These need to be
dropped by serious amounts. Fast.
• 1 in 10 people have been bullied via the
internet or cellphone.
• 48% of canadian students use the
internet for more than 1 hour a day.

to do with cyber bullying.
• 30% of students in NZ reported being
bullied by phone or internet.
• 60% of Canadian students use chat
rooms and instant messaging.
13. Cyber Harassment
Cyber bullying is only cyber bullying
when it is a youth picking on another
youth. When it is a adult picking on a
youth it is called cyber stalking or
cyber harassment.

bullying
There are many ways that you can
protect children from getting cyber
bullied. Such as having your computer
in a visible place, limiting children’s
time on the computer and checking
what website they are on every so
often.

The internet, somewhere you can do
homework, find information surf the
web and just talk to friends. But also
somewhere that you can get bullied and
end up committing suicide. Internet
chat rooms and social networking sites
can be very dangerous because one
minute you could be talking to your
friend and the next getting harassed.

Cellphones can be just as dangerous as
the internet. Any body can send you a
unwanted text message threatening to
kill you or scaring you by telling you
that some stranger knows where you
live. If there are any issues with
unwanted text messages you should
keep them and show your phone
company who will block the number.

There are many people worldwide that

should not be tolerated and needs to
