How To Work Out 3 Times A Week:
        For College Students

Why Work Out…
• Reduces risk of heart disease, high blood
  pressure, diabetes, and many other diseases

• Strengthens immune system

• Reduces stress

• Slows the aging process
So Many Benefits!
Tons of college students want to work
 out more, but can’t find the time to
     work it into their schedule.

    So I set out to figure out how to
GET COLLEGE STUDENTS TO WORK OUT
      THREE EVENINGS A WEEK.
Trial 1
• Instead of studying at night in the dorm, I set
  out to have subject 1 study at the library
  (close to the gym) in work out clothes on
  Monday, Wednesday, & Friday evening of one
  week.
Trial 1 Results
• He went to the library on Monday and Friday,
  and went to the gym afterwards.

• But Wednesday, he didn’t even go to the
  library to study, because he was too busy
Trial 2
• I had subject 2 do all his reading on a bench at
  the gym on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
Trial 2 Results
• Not much reading got done, it was very
  distracting and uncomfortable to work on the
  bench

• He did use the gym though, all three nights

• Subject got frustrated with doing homework
  in the gym, so would stop, work out for a
  little, and then go home
Trial 3
• Subject three had a friend
  commit to going to the gym
  with her MWF nights, doesn’t
  have to be the same person
  all three nights

• Went to the gym all three nights!

• When college students live/study near food,
  they’re going to eat regardless of how hungry
  they are

• In the same way, if college students studied
  right at or near a gym, it suddenly becomes a
  lot easier to work out

  adverse effects

• Subject 2 worked out more when he was put
  right in the gym, but was behind on reading
  during the week because he couldn’t get
  much work done on the bench at the gym

  gym, and because of social pressures,
  followed through on the commitment
What This Means
• In order to get college students to work out
  more, it is important to both increase
  motivationand increase ability

  increase one’s ability to get to the gym and
  work out
This doesn’t just matter for college
             students!
Remember all these benefits of
            working out…
• Reduces risk of heart disease, high blood

• Reduces stress

• Slows the aging process
What This Means
• Knowing how to get your employees to work
  out more can do wonders for Corporate
  Wellness programs and SAVE employers tons
  of money in health care costs
What This Means
• Employers who want their employees to work
  out more can build gyms into or near the
  workplace, so it’ll be easier for employees to
  work out at the end of the day before they go
  home
What This Means

• They can also set up a buddy system for work
  out schedules

  • 4. Trial 1 • Instead of studying at night in the dorm, I set out to have subject 1 study at the library (close to the gym) in work out clothes on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday evening of one week.
  • 5. Trial 1 Results • He went to the library on Monday and Friday, and went to the gym afterwards. • But Wednesday, he didn’t even go to the library to study, because he was too busy
  • 6. Trial 2 • I had subject 2 do all his reading on a bench at the gym on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
  • 7. Trial 2 Results • Not much reading got done, it was very distracting and uncomfortable to work on the bench • He did use the gym though, all three nights • Subject got frustrated with doing homework in the gym, so would stop, work out for a little, and then go home
  • 8. Trial 3 • Subject three had a friend commit to going to the gym with her MWF nights, doesn’t have to be the same person all three nights
