1. IDEAS FOR CAMERA
A variation of camera shots feature in film trailers, that are used for
different purposes.
The close up is extremely common for a trailer, in order for portray to the
audience a more in detail image. For example, within Hitchcock's Psycho
there is a close up of the drain where Marion's blood had drained down in
the shower. This close up ensures the audience's emotions rise as they are
horrified with what had just happened. If this shot were to be a medium
shot the same effect would not happen, as the blood would not be so
intimately close with the audience, causing their reaction to be less
enthusiastic.
Within our horror trailer, a close up will occur of Jamal's possessed face.
This will only show half of his face, where his eyes are all black indicating
to the audience that there is something evil within him. All adding to
fright the audience.
Medium shots are also common, this is mainly due to having more props
in the frame. Our trailer will also feature medium shot as our sting at the
2. end of the trailer, this is to show two people within the frame and Jamal
possessed creeping up behind her. Giving the audience one last fright
before ending the trailer.
A close up tracking shot will be used within our trailer. To show a
stampede of feet going past, appealing to the audience senses and
increasing tension.
Other common shots within trailers include, extreme long shots/
establishing shots. These are mostly used to display to the audience where
the movie is set. For example within 'The Devil Inside' trailer, Isabella
travels to Rome, which is noted through one establishing shot and one
long shot, reinforcing all doubts about where they may be.
Point of view shots have become increasingly popular, as found footage
horrors have increased. These are mainly to due to the idea of 'normal'
people finding some sort of evil within their own homes has frightened the
modern day audience much more than any other feature. However this
will not feature within our horror trailer, as we do not fit in with that
genre and believe if we were to carry out these shots it would not be
sophisticated.
