Completed 36 years of service in the field of telecommunication in variety of domains (Including erstwhile
Overseas Communications Service, Government of India and Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited, A Government of
India Company). Started my career with Overseas Communications Service (Government of India
Department) and later it became Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (A Government of India
Company) during year 1985 and in year 2002 it was rebranded as Tata Communications Limited. I
started my career as Junior Technical Assistant in Earth station of satellite Communications in year 1980
and rose to the post of Vice President (Consortium Relations) in Submarine cable operation and
Maintenance group at Tata communications Ltd, Mumbai, India.
Satellite Earth Station (Intelsat and Inmarsat) and ITMC (Access) 8.1.1980 - 31.12.2000
Have worked in Operation and Maintenance of Satellite Ground Communications Equipment in Vikram
Satellite Earth Station, Arvi (near Pune, India) operating through Intelsat system. The operation and
maintenance work at Earth station were involved Low Noise Receiver, High Power Amplifier (Klystron
and TWT type), Modulation system, De-modulation system, Servo System for Antenna auto tracking ,
IDR, TDMA, SS-TDMA , FDMA, SCPC, DAMA etc. Also had opportunity to work in India’s first
Inmarsat LES at Arvi, India in Access control and Switching Equipment (ACSE) for Inmarsat-A(got
trained at M/s HNS , U.K.) And Inmarsat-C system right from commissioning of the system. Also got
opportunity to work in ITMC (Access) section in Kolkata ITMC. I was the main lead in Testing
/commissioning of Std.-A and Std.-CEarth station at Arvi (Intelsat and Inmarsat), and Std.-A Earth Station
(Intelsat) at Halisahar, West Bengal, India.
SUB-MARINE CABLE Telecommunication Industry 1.1.2001 – 31.3.2016
 Since year 2001, I am working in Submarine cable System (Consortium cable and 100% Tata
Communications owned cable) industry in Operation and Maintenance / Restoration of cable matter.
In consortium main cable, I worked in SEA-ME-WE-2, SEA-ME-WE-3, FLAG, Indo-Gulf, IOCOM,
SEA-ME-WE-4, IMEWE, WACS, and CANTAT-3. In Tata Com 100% owned cable such as TIISCS
(Chennai to Singapore) and CANUS. Other than these main submarine cable I worked in many
extension cable lying in Europe, Middle-east and south-east Asia to connect main cable to customer
point.
The following are the detailed work carried out by me during last 15 years in submarine Cable
system
 Preparation of Cable station O&M Budget and getting it approved by consortium from concerned
sub-committee and Management Committee.
 Preparation of Seg-T capital cost of new cable station from commissioning of new cable station and
there after revising the Seg-T Capital cost during cable capacity upgrade.
 Preparation of O&M Budget of new cable station from its commissioning phase and get it approved
by O&M Sub-committee and Management Committee and thereafter getting Annual Cable station
O&M Budget revision based on annual cost increase of Manpower ,power, and other consumable
items.
 To verify O&M invoices in technical point of view for and ensure timely payment to CBP (Central
Billing Party) avoid extended payment charges
 To assist Finance cell by providing all the cost component of cable stations during preparation of
AOP (Annual Operating Plan).
 To ensure that trigger note (for receivables amount from Cable consortium) is being sent to billing
team by Finance cell quarterly basis.
 To play SPOC of cable section for Asset tracking of TATA Comm. Under Fixed Asset team to
update status of the cable system assets in SAP.
 Updating time to time the Disaster recovery Plans (DRP) for Submarine Cable Stations at various
levels.
 To prepare O&M monthly provisioning of repair cost for main cables and extension cables in SAP
system.
 To provide annually the consortium approved figure for receivable to IF –Fin cell and keep track of
it in between if any change takes palace.
 To provide/update time to time the Submarine cable ARO(Asset Retirement Obligation) cost to
Financial Planning & Analysis section (FP&A) i.e., DFM of International Facilities group.
 Co-ordinated with CANTAT-3 consortium members for smooth taking over of CANTAT-3
Asset(except PPT & Redcar portion) by Faroes Telecom after preparing the Agreement and changes
in C&MA . Also coordinated with Halifax Depot, Canada to disposal of CANTAT-3 spares and
settlement of payment etc.
 Liaoning with various Government authorities (MTNL,MSRDC, ONGC, MMRDA Chief Architect
/Principal Sec of Govt. of Maharashtra etc.) to safeguard marine/land portion of the TATA Com
wholly owned / partially owned submarine cable from various constructional projects (BWSL,
VBSLP, East Coast West Coast WTP, Sea Oil well construction, Shivaji Statue Installation ) but later
it got postponed .
 To manage planned event (PE) of cable stations /submarine cables and confirm no traffic failure
during PE by properly coordinating with consortium/distant cable stations/SA team etc. Also to take
part in weekly IF-SA sync-up con call for better PE management.
 Managed situation during cable failure in case of fault /cut occurs in SMW3/SEACOM / IMEWE/
SMW4/ SAFE/ TIC/ cables by proper co-ordination with distant cable stations /O&MSC members /
and internal customers viz SA team.
 To receive daily /weekly/monthly report from cable stations (SMW3, SAFE, SMW4, FLAG, TIC,
IMEWE/SEACOM etc.) and study it to analyze the report and keep record of analysis and any
improvement out of it and same to be informed to concerned cable station.
 To get quarterly cable station report, fault history and card failure status etc from SMW3
(Mumbai& Cochin) for sending it to O&MSC. Also monthly basis we need to send KPI report of
S3WS Cochin to O&MSC.
 To communicate/reply to O&MSC sub group of all cable systems time to time to safeguard
company’s interest in O&M matter.
 To revise the JSMD (Joint System Maintenance Document) of all cable system time to time during
upgrade or any changes takes place.
 Participate in WACS O&MSC meeting and liaise with Seixal and High bridge cable stations time to
time on O&M point of view apart from implementation of WACS NOC through Neotel & TCTS.
 To maintain test Equipment calibration status list of all cable stations and get the test equipment
calibrated as and when it is due by obtaining approval from O&MSC chairman and get the PO
released to vendor. Later on tracking the process till vendor gets the payment as per the PO.
 Procurement of Test Equipment for cable stations as and when required for consortium cable and
100% Tata com owned cable.
 To arrange repair of Test Equipment/Equipment through vendor as and when required by following
consortium /Tata com Internal procedure.
 To ensure proper maintenance by cable station Engineer on (SMW3, SAFE, TIISCS,
IMEWE SEACOM,) Land route cable (BMH to Cable station). Also to co-ordinate with cable
station and HQ /coml. for arranging AMC of land cable.
 Procurement/replenishment of land cable spares for SMW3/SEACOM /IMEWE / SAFE& SMW3
Cochin /TIC Chennai just after every land cable repair takes place or in case of any diversion
suggested by Government Authorities.
 To communicate/reply to O&MSC sub group of all cable systems time to time to safeguard Tata com
interest in O&M matter.
 Representing Tata Communications in Submarine Cable Consortium Sub-Committees ( viz
O&MSC and AR&RSC ) and Management Committee to Influence consortium working
committees/Sub-Committees/MC to take decisions enabling reduction of O&M and consortium
restoration cost of Submarine cable system ,to secure revenue generation opportunities related to
O&M from consortium , Lead and guide team to handle all consortium relations related to operations
and maintenance of consortium cables; Supervise team to make O&M payments to consortium
ensuring accuracy and timeliness and receive payments from consortium to Tata Com for services
rendered to Consortium (viz. managing cable station , Managing NA.NOC etc.)
 To participate in consortium O&M and Restoration subcommittee meetings and influence and
communicate with members and advocate decisions which will reduce the consortium cable O&M
cost in areas like vendor contracts renewal, Annual O&M budget approvals for any O&M cost or any
additional costs proposed by other cable members.
 Supervise and guide team to coordinate wet maintenance related activities of consortium cables
(touching India) in most cost and time efficient manner; Monitor the wet maintenance of
consortium cables by other members in their segment and coordinate with members to ensure early
uptime and low cost of maintenance; Drive adherence on maintaining spares inventory at certain
levels required for cable maintenance.

Also monthly basis we need to send KPI report of S3WS Cochin to O&MSC.  To communicate/reply to O&MSC sub group of all cable systems time to time to safeguard company’s interest in O&M matter.  To revise the JSMD (Joint System Maintenance Document) of all cable system time to time during upgrade or any changes takes place.  Participate in WACS O&MSC meeting and liaise with Seixal and High bridge cable stations time to time on O&M point of view apart from implementation of WACS NOC through Neotel & TCTS.  To maintain test Equipment calibration status list of all cable stations and get the test equipment calibrated as and when it is due by obtaining approval from O&MSC chairman and get the PO released to vendor. Later on tracking the process till vendor gets the payment as per the PO.  Procurement of Test Equipment for cable stations as and when required for consortium cable and 100% Tata com owned cable.  To arrange repair of Test Equipment/Equipment through vendor as and when required by following consortium /Tata com Internal procedure.  To ensure proper maintenance by cable station Engineer on (SMW3, SAFE, TIISCS, IMEWE SEACOM,) Land route cable (BMH to Cable station). Also to co-ordinate with cable station and HQ /coml. for arranging AMC of land cable.  Procurement/replenishment of land cable spares for SMW3/SEACOM /IMEWE / SAFE& SMW3 Cochin /TIC Chennai just after every land cable repair takes place or in case of any diversion suggested by Government Authorities.  To communicate/reply to O&MSC sub group of all cable systems time to time to safeguard Tata com interest in O&M matter.  Representing Tata Communications in Submarine Cable Consortium Sub-Committees ( viz O&MSC and AR&RSC ) and Management Committee to Influence consortium working committees/Sub-Committees/MC to take decisions enabling reduction of O&M and consortium restoration cost of Submarine cable system ,to secure revenue generation opportunities related to O&M from consortium , Lead and guide team to handle all consortium relations related to operations
  • 4. and maintenance of consortium cables; Supervise team to make O&M payments to consortium ensuring accuracy and timeliness and receive payments from consortium to Tata Com for services rendered to Consortium (viz. managing cable station , Managing NA.NOC etc.)  To participate in consortium O&M and Restoration subcommittee meetings and influence and communicate with members and advocate decisions which will reduce the consortium cable O&M cost in areas like vendor contracts renewal, Annual O&M budget approvals for any O&M cost or any additional costs proposed by other cable members.  Supervise and guide team to coordinate wet maintenance related activities of consortium cables (touching India) in most cost and time efficient manner; Monitor the wet maintenance of consortium cables by other members in their segment and coordinate with members to ensure early uptime and low cost of maintenance; Drive adherence on maintaining spares inventory at certain levels required for cable maintenance.
