Who would be the
audience for your media
product?
The Drawing Board
Magazines are created with specific people in mind therefore when
creating the magazines it was important to look at what people
want to read and decide on a specific age ranges and genres so
that our target audience was reflected in our final product.
With our student magazine our brief
was quite specific as the target
audience was already specified as
students therefore it was more about
deciding what age range is our
magazine going to attract and is it
going to be aimed at a specific type of
student or gender.

With the music magazine there was
more freedom as it just had to be in the
confines of music as a whole. Here we
had to think slightly more about the
genre of music we want our magazines
to be based on, the age of our audience
that we want to attract and if we want it
to be aimed at a specific gender.
Student Magazine
Who is your audience?
For my student magazine my audience is students around
the age range of 16-18.

Why are they are you
audience?
This is an age range that will still be in a place of
education so they fit the target audience therefore it will
allow me to focus my magazine articles on particular
things they would be interested in. Also my interview and
questionnaire was filled out by people of this age range so
I felt like I had a good idea of what this age range would
want in a student magazine. Additionally as a student in
this age range I feel like I know what is important to a
student and the stressful side to it as well as the fun that
is involved in it, so i could make my articles specific.

How did you try and reflect this
audience in your magazine?
I felt like it was appropriate to have a specific age group as a target
audience as it meant I could focus my articles and style to fit. I chose
articles that would reflect the lives of the students in my target
audience such as organisation and stress as these are things
students struggle with and often need help with. Furthermore I
decided to include money saving tips and upcoming events as
students are often strapped for cash and having something not work
related would be appealing in a student magazine. I tried to make my
magazine half educational half fun related as my questionnaire
feedback told me that this was what the target audience would like to
see in a student magazine for themselves.
Music Magazine
Who is your audience?
Our magazine will be created with a different genre of
music each issue so that it appeals to all music lovers
however the audience for my issue is rap enthusiasts.

Why are they your audience?
I thought It was appropriate to have them as my target
audience as this particular issue is going to be based
upon rap and I know this genre well as its something I
myself listen to and follow. I feel like I have knowledge on
rap that I have been able to apply during the production.
Additionally a lot of people I know listen to it so when
creating my interview I could use their opinions to help
with what I should and shouldn’t include.

How did you try and reflect this
audience in your magazine?
I tried to reflect my audience as much as possible in production of
the magazine. When deciding on what I made my model wear and
how he spoke during the interview along with what he spoke about
as a reflection of information I had received in my interview and
questionnaire feedback as well as what I had learnt from my subject
matter research.
When it came to picking out information to include as interview
questions and developing ideas for my pugs and pull quotes I found
my target audience research a massive help as it allowed me to
focus on things in particular that the people I am trying to address
would like and want to read about.
I felt that by choosing such a specific audience my feedback on
things was even more important as I wanted to create something
that they would definitely like and be enticed into reading.
