4. Description
Binge eating is basically a condition where a
person consumes an insane amount of food in a
short period of time on a regular basis.
5. Signs To Look For
The person would:
• Not have control over the amount they eat
• Eat unusually large amounts of food
• Have severe depression
• Eat even though not hungry
• Be easily irritated
7. Description
Renal Failure means that the kidney(s) lose their
basic function of filtering urea and other wastes
from the blood stream. If left alone, the person
would end up poisoning themselves through the
waste products produced by the food they eat.
8. Symptoms
• Swelling of extremities
• Nausea
• Potassium build up
• Phosphate build up
• Darkening of skin
• Low volume of urine
9. Affect on Body
A Renal failure will have drastic consequences if
left untreated. The body will slowly become
septic and poison itself due to the high levels of
urea in the blood. Patients with renal failure will
have to undergo dialysis at least 3 times a week
just to keep them alive and kicking. If it was
only an acute renal failure, the kidneys may be
able to regenerate and function properly again.
10. Relation
The relationship between a binge eating disorder
and renal failure is an indirect one. The eating
disorder will provide an imbalance of
concentration between water and solutes in the
blood. That in turn will make it easier for the
solutes to form precipitates in the form of a
kidney stone. If it slides into the ureter, the
pressure caused in the kidney will gradually
destroy the renal substance, leading to renal
failure.
12. Description
Kidney transplant is a procedure where you add
a donor’s (dead or alive) kidney into a patient
with renal failure to replace the function of their
damaged organ. The donor’s kidneys are placed
in an area near the groin where doctors will have
easy access to it in case of future complications.
13. Developing technologies
The next in line to take the throne would be stem
cells. It is currently the best way to treat most
malfunctioning organs because it uses
unidentified cells from the umbilical cord to fix or
repair the cells. Stem cells are basically the cells
which formed you in your fetal stages. They were
the ones that magically turned into a heart, liver,
kidneys etc. By placing it in the damaged organ,
doctors hope that it would grow to become like
the cells around it, repairing the organ.
