1. Parent Involvement Opportunities
at Taylors Creek Elementary
Curiosity Shop We keep our media center open for families
each Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from
2:45 – 5:15 p.m. Families can get help with
homework, use computers, work on projects,
read, check out up to 10 books, and take AR
tests.
The school has a well-stocked Resource Room
Resource Room equipped with materials that parents can
check out to help students with reading and
mathematics.
Open House We kick off the year every year with Open
House. Families come to school to meet with
teachers, visit classrooms, and hear about
upcoming events.
Gather around and have some fun at the
Super Bowl of Reading. This family evening is
held in January at Super Bowl time. The
Super Bowl of Reading Family Night
evening has a football theme. Families enjoy a
chili or beefy nacho supper. We have football
players from the high school come read sports
themed books to students, and students can
take AR tests.
CRCT Family Night: Hotdog Supper This night is set aside for parents to learn
about our state test, the CRCT. Parents attend
grade specific workshops and families enjoy a
hotdog supper. Hot Diggity Dog!
2. Fall Festival We have a “just for fun” Fall Festival each year
in October. Families enjoy a relaxed evening
together.
Family Night: Chicken Supper Each Spring we invite families to join us for an
old fashioned social. We have a delicious
chicken supper and a variety of family-focused
events for them to enjoy. Last year we kicked
off our “healthy kids” campaign with a Family
Mile Walk/Run in the gym.

Our families support fifth grade students as
they plan a business. This engaging activity
involves math, economics, social studies, and
Market Day
much more. Students set up a business and
“sell” their product. This is always a big hit.
Each grade level hosts a program during the
year. Parents enjoy these opportunities to
watch their children perform. Every child has
the chance to participate.

3. Chorus Nights Parents enjoy an evening of music twice a year
Holiday Concert when our 4th and 5th grade chorus performs.
The holiday concert is held outdoors and
Spring Concert families are surrounded with a beautiful
display of luminaries.
Wax Museum Fifth grade students celebrate famous
Americans throughout history by “becoming”
that person at our popular Wax Museum. The
Wax Museum is open to families in the
evening.
Field Days Parents help us with our Field Days each year
in May. They also come out and cheer for
their favorite team as classes compete in a
variety of physical challenges.
Our school council is made up of parents and
School Council staff who meet quarterly to discuss issues that
pertain to school improvement.
Parents are able to check on their child(ren)’s
Parent Portal grades in real time by logging onto the Parent
Portal.
Every teacher has a classroom blog. The blogs
are updated regularly and keep parents
informed about what is going on at school.

4. SKYPE Teachers and administrators use SKYPE to
have video conferences with parents that are
overseas or out of town.
McTeacher’s Night Teachers and families enjoy a fun-filled night
at McDonalds!
Taylors Creek offers support to parents who
speak English as a second language. Our
websites and written communications are
ELL Program
translated into the family’s native language.
The ELL teacher coordinates events for our ELL
families. They kick off the year with an ELL
Family Pizza Party and Information Session.
The school principal uses Survey Monkey each
Annual Parent Survey Spring to create and send out a parent survey.
The leadership team use parent responses to
improve school activities.
The school principal is able to communicate
via home phone and/or cell phone with all
parents at the same time. For example, if
there is an unscheduled weather day, the
Automated Phone System principal can send a taped phone message to
every phone in the system. She is also able to
send automated phone reminders about
special events on the calendar.
Students have become involved in
Student’s Encouraging Parent encouraging parent involvement; two clubs
(the Parent Involvement Club, and the School
Involvement
Ambassadors Club) both assist with making
the school a friendly and warm place to visit.
5. We encourage parent volunteers to help with
a variety of tasks throughout the school. We
TEAM: have parents who help with costumes for
Together Everyone Achieves More school programs, ELL parents who help with
translating, parents who help teachers in the
classrooms, and more. We are very thankful
for our volunteers!
Career Day Our parents help us with Career Day, a special
program organized by the school’s Guidance
Counselor. Parents talk to students about
their jobs and about the importance of
reading and mathematics in their job. Our
goal is to promote the idea that “School Is
Important!”
