Editor's Notes

  1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDfew0YcDToStop recording at 2:10 or show the whole thing (it is an ad for post graduate education, but applies so well to this lesson!)Never stop learning video3:44min
  2. Turn chat off so no answers are shared.Explain that today, we are going to explore WHY YOU, as an individual, attend school. What are you getting out of it?Break students into individual breakout rooms. Have students work for 5-7 minutes listing all of the reasons that they attend school. Ask them to be honest!
  3. Once students are finished in their individual rooms, break them into groups of 3-5 students. Have students share with each other their own reasons why they attend school,
  4. Discuss these questions as a large group.Closing statement: When students make the connection between the skills and knowledge they acquirein school and how these will enhance their quality of life later, they will be moremotivated to attend school. If there are outside factors that motivate you, think of how you can integrate that with your motivation with schoolwork.
