The largest island is Crete in the Mediterranean Sea, and the highest mountain is Mount Olympus. Athens is the largest city and capital of Greece, with a population of over 3 million people. Ancient Greece included mainland Greece as well as areas that are now part of Turkey, and Greek colonies scattered around the Mediterranean coast from Italy to France.
