“My first library reading here
in Jacksonville....”
“Check out the great Les Miserables display
that our friends at Jacksonville Main Library created for us!
Swing by during Art Walk next Wednesday”
General role of outreach in libraries-use example of apple fest table. Existing examples- school outreach, garden clubs, literacy fairs, Library Climate Change- use JPL downsize example. Have to look beyond the normal to meet customers where they are and where they want to access information. Outreach has changed- going beyond the walls to where the people are…we are presenting our story and what we have learned in hopes that others can create opportunities in their own communities. So much more- unexpected venues…………
SUCCESSFUL Foundation to build on. Great example of many community facets come together. A-Ha moment. Blossoms from there… Investment can really pay off. Dawn Lopez, library patron , parent, news anchor. Erika White, Ribaultgraduate and WNBA star.
Kathy: Ron had forged a relationship with the community outreach person at Barnes & Noble after meeting her at an event where we both had a table. Barnes & Noble wanted to do a marketing push of their new “Nook”…and of course, the library offers free e-books you can download to a Nook that we wanted to promote. A great match.
This was an exciting “novel partnership” that grew out of our earlier relationship with Barnes & Noble bookstore. Raised nearly $900 for future community outreach events.
Dawn has become a huge library advocate- will lend her star power at the drop a hat…..gave her kids their cards…
Liz – talk about wanting to partner with the library. No idea about the value of what you possess…customer base to be reached through email enews social media …A positive affiliation with the library. What’s not to like about the library. Family friendly ….. Anyone already working with Ringling Brothers.
Kathy: When we’re approached with a partnership, or when Ron dreams one up—ha—I’m always asking, how is this a fit for the library? How does it support our brand image? How does it support our library’s priorities of youth education, economic success or technology success?
Kathy: In other words, it’s great to have a Harlem Globetrotter appearance, but can we tie it in with reading, with books? Ex: asked Willie Shaw to talk about his favorite book (Of Mice and Men), why reading is important to him, had a display of basketball themed books near the autograph signing. Rather than using their marketing materials, we’re lucky to have a graphic designer who could take their images and blend it with our branding so it looks like a library program. Short time frame.
