International Conference on Fortifications and World Heritage: Challenges in Interpretation and Site Management February 2015, New Delhi The fortifications have an important role in the generation of identity for the Brazilian people and a high potential as a catalyzer in the implementation of regional projects that generate sustainable development, based on Community Based Tourism and local identity. Actually in Brasil are under the administration of institutions of different natures. The characteristics of these institutions contribute with own models of management and specifics interpretations that enrich the social function of Heritage, gradually creating a mosaic of a Brazilian model that may be more representative of the expectations and needs of society.
