POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS

• Use “I am sorry” when you feel you have done something wrong.
Don’t be stubborn and withhold your apology.

• If you are upset about language or behaviour, tell the other person
gently about your discomfort (by keeping quiet about it and XXXnot
doing anything, you are supporting the language or behaviour non-

Choose one of the following two case studies and answer the
questions that follow.

Case Study 1

Linus is very pleased inabout joining the BB. Since he joined only in Sec 2, his peers in
school are already ahead of him in promotion. While they are not negative toward him,
their immediate reaction when required to choose someone for an appointment, is they
wouldto look within their own cohort.

Linus feels that this is unfair and that he is not appreciated. In view of the fact that he
will always be behind them in this respect, he wishes to speak to them to express his
dissatisfaction.

What do you think are the issues in this case study on “community life”?

Based on your learning from this module, what will be your advice for the person who
initiates the discussion in each case?

Case Study 2
Vincent is always consistently late for parade, especially muster parade. His lack of
effort in polishing and maintaining his equipment prevents the squad from doing well.
The rest do not think that there will be any improvement if they don’t speak to him since
he is already in his second year in the BB.

The rest meet to discuss how what and what how to tell him. Some saidy that they squad
should take a hard approach, while others suggested a gentler approach. As squad leader,
you have to decide on the main issues and guide the discussion with Vincent.
