Buying Hearing Aids Online
1. How To Save When Buying Hearing Aids
It is believed that at least 30 million men and women in the US would
benefit from a hearing aid but, for many, the cost of a good hearing aid
makes it a major purchase. Modern digital hearing aids can make it much
easier to live with hearing loss (although they cannot restore your hearing
in the same way that glasses can restore eyesight) but they are certainly
not cheap.
Hearing aids prices vary from less than $100 for a disposal hearing aid to
thousands of dollars for the latest digital model. There are two basic types
of hearing aids:
• Analogue Models - which are the traditional type. These simply
amplify sounds and the user can adjust the volume.
• Digital hearing aids - which are effectively small computers and
these are now much more common. They receive the sound and
can manipulate it before outputting it to the user. This means that
they can be programmed to meet each user’s specific requirements.
In addition extra functionality can be built in such as multiple
microphones to give some directionality to the sounds.
If you realize that your hearing has deteriorated you should first consult
an audiologist who is able to assess you and advise if a hearing aid will
help. If so, the audiologist will test your hearing and produce an
audiogram then sell you a suitable hearing aid (or possibly two). The
hearing aid is then programmed based on the audiogram and the fit
adjusted as required.
Although most hearing aids are purchased this way the problem with it is
that prices are very high. The brand name hearing aids are sold through
audiologists and the manufacturers put a lot of effort into getting their
products onto audiologist's shelves. Obviously audiologists would not
welcome cheaper competition selling these products so manufacturers do
not supply other parties. The result is that market forces are not allowed
to operate and prices are kept high.
Audiologists will cite their overheads (office space, personnel, etc.) plus
their training and the level of service offered. However, the bottom line is
that hearing aids prices have more to do with lack of competition than
anything else.
However, some manufacturers do produce hearing aids under other
names which are sold online. Of course buying online means no personal
service but this will not matter for most people. If buying online is of
interest to you it is worth checking out Century Hearing Aids as they offer
a 60 day money back guarantee. Their hearings aids are made by a US
manufacturer and are approved by the FDA. Their prices are much less
but quality is the same.
Buying online does have disadvantages and up to about 20% of people
2. will not be satisfied (usually issues relating to fit and comfort) so the
ability to get a refund is important. However, given the low hearing aids
prices you can find online it is well worth exploring this route.

of benefit but you might look at our Tinnitus Miracle Review. Tinnitus
