The USA – basic facts
Location - southern part of North America.
It lies between the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans.
Neighbours - Canada to the north and Mexico to
the south.
The USA – basic facts
Population - more than 300 million people.
Area - more than 9 million square kilometres.
It is the fourth largest country in the world.

The system of Federal Government
of the United States was established by the
Constitution, ratified in 1788.
50 states joined in
a federal republic.
The head of state
is the President.
The USA – mountains
The highest mountains are situated in the western part
of the country.
They are the Rocky Mountains and Sierra Nevada
with the highest mountain Mt. Whitney (4,421 m
high).
The highest peak in the USA is in Alaska – it is
Mount McKinley in the Alaska Range (6,194 m
high).

Situated in the eastern and southern part of the
USA.
The largest lowlands are the Mississippi
Lowlands.

border.
Biggest supply of fresh water in the world.
Lake Superior is the second largest lake in the
world.
There are famous Niagara Falls between lakes Erie
and Ontario.

The USA is rich in coal, petroleum, minerals and
timber.
The northeast is the most industrial part of the
USA.
The heavy industries are concentrated around the
Great Lakes,where raw materials like coal,
copper, iron and oil are found.
The USA – climate
The climate of the USA is extremely varied.
The Artic climate in the north (Alaska).
The subtropical climate in the south (Florida) .
Favourite holiday lands are California and Florida.
The most pleasant climate is on the Hawaiian
Islands.
